Summer Time Day Hike:

Complexity: Hard
Terrain: Rocky and flatland - Have to climb couple of mountains. Pretty challenging for first 10 miles with few elevations but rest was downhill most of the time
Trekking Pole: I did that without a hiking pole. It might help as its long.
Foot Wear: Better wear something with good grip, the rain makes the rocks slippery. Lot of protection needed for your toes
Scenic View: Lake was beautiful, you can swim here. Every mile had a scenic view, better take your camera
Trail Markers: Trail markers are easy to locate but as this is a combination of lot of trail. My GPS watach went choppy because of tall trees, So take a map.
Parking: Enough parking for 10 cars at harrison state park visitor area. You can even park on the road. Vistor area has restrooms
Permit: No fees
Animal Encounter: Seen couple of deers running around
Overall timing: I completed in 9.5 hours at 2.4 mph with lots of photo breaks. Start early to do day hike
Streams : As there was lot of summer rain, i could see lots of steams. Plenty of water
Traffic: Saw lots of hikers heading to the lake which is in the first few miles
Campsites: Lots of dispersed camp sites around the lake, I even saw people fishing
Pet: Take plenty of water, its will be very tiresome for your little one.

on Kakiat Trail

On Wednesday I was the only one on the trail. There is a stretch where the trail is close to the Thruway and the noise of the traffic was most unpleasant.

red, blue and white trail is not easy

Heavily trafficked in the first few miles, complete solitude from mile 4 on. Good range, starts east/moderate, the yellow square trail jumps significantly in difficulty and is much less traveled. Good scenery, not much of a view. Bring lots of water, this is a long hike!

Red square > Yellow Square > White Square > Red Line > back to Red Square

Great loop with some challenging spots. Take a breather at the top and take in the beautiful view.

Lovely park with great variety of scenery... from pretty lakes to scenic outlooks. Abundant fauna.. we saw deer, a rattler, a black snake, frogs and black/blue butterflies. Definitely not hard though... more moderate. First section from road to lake heavily trafficked, quiet after that. Slow steady climb. Very lush plateaus and gullies. Flowers were out this time of year and the greenery was intense.

this is hard and rocky with plenty of stream crossings. great place to camp or do some backpacking/bring some AT magic. bring a filter- no need to over pack water.

While I did not complete the entire loop, what I did hike was fantastic! As an avid hiker with a decent amount of experience I would say this is a pretty easy trail, a lot of walking. However, there is just enough climbing and steep hills to make this a moderate hike. Beautiful view, and very well marked. I parked in the little loop and walked back out to the path. Great for dogs, only had to give my dog a little assistance getting up a rock. I definitely suggest this hike, and if you don’t have time to do the whole loop, you can get to the scenic view pretty easily and quickly!

Trail is challenging with plenty of mountain streams, small waterfall and great views! The steep inclines pay off to see the amazing view at the top.

Really nice view from top of mountain. NYC is visible .

The black on white trail was good. it would of been nice if the markers were a littler closer. Overall, it was great

Nice short hike with a relatively steep incline to get your blood pumping. Be careful on way down.

The 3.5 mile red trail hike to the lake was more of a very good maintained path with a few foot bridges etc, very enjoyable.
I took the yellow trail back which was a fairly exhaustive climb to the top of the mountain, then the blue trail down which made me happy that I wore the right hiking shoes/etc due to the difficulty of some of the descents. I especially loved the blue trail.

This is a trail next to the road along the lake. It's also cut off by someone who has marked it as private property, so it is much shorter now. I would not waste my day on this hike. There is a spot to lounge next to the lake.

This was a great trail in the rain. We went off the beaten path and got a great cardio work out. It started to pour sporadically but it was refreshing while trailing.

Soaked from the rain but worth it

I enjoyed this hike! It wasn't very strenuous and the views were nice. I did have a run in with some rattle snakes but other than that it was great!
