on Goose Pond Trail

This was a nice short hike and is 3 miles round trip including the Jeep road at the first trailhead. I would suggest not trying to drive in to the second trailhead unless you have a Jeep or a truck since their are large rocks and washed out gullets all along the way.

Hiked up in the dark watched the sunrise . Deer flies were horrible . Other then that a nice hike with good views for the amount of effort you put in

Pharaoh was challenging but so fun! Great views from beginning to end. When we went it was nice & dry but it would be a lot trickier when wet - it gets marshy at the bottom and the rocks at the top get slippery.

My husband and I did this hike in June and enjoyed it! The trail is interesting and well maintained. In the beginning you start out by going through two tunnels under the highway, very cool! We only saw a few other people on a nice Sunday morning and there is ample parking. The only problem was the bugs - the mosquitoes nearly ate us alive. As long as I remembered to pack bug spray, I would do this hike again.

Great quick hike that’ll get your heart rate up and then reward you with a beautiful view

Lots of mosquitos, will try and eat you alive if you slow down too much. Lots of mud at the start. Make sure you're OK with having wet socks for the day if your shoes aren't waterproof. Only saw a handful of hikers all day, and one group camping near Crane Pond. It can also be quite slippery, so watch your steps!

Did it this weekend however, went straight to one of the camp sites beside Pharaoh lake for the night. It was a warm and humid day plus we were carrying 80L packs which added to the struggle. I expected more eroded tree roots with lots of ups and downs but I remember doing at least 3 steady long steep climbs. As you get closer to the summit(s), it gets more rocky and the surfaces tend to get lethally slick and slippery when wet!
The summit and lake views were AMAZING!!!!
Drank filtered/boiled water from the streams and the lake, we were all fine afterwards.
Make sure to bring your bug spray as the insects especially the mosquitos were relentless.
We saw 2 turtle corpses which was fitting as we were within PHARAOH Wilderness.
Pharaoh Mtn trail to Pharaoh lake camp- ~10 mi;
Camp to Crane Pond via Glidden Marsh - ~9 mi.

Pharaoh Lake Wilderness has an extensive trail system to many beautiful ponds and lakes. The Pharaoh Mountain Trail gives you the opportunity to get a mountain view after exploring all the lakes.

A word of caution about a descent on the north side after a rain: the exposed rock on the trail the first 1/4 mile or so from the summit can be extremely slippery. In the last five years hiking extensively in the Adirondacks—including some difficult exposed rock areas in the High Peaks—I’ve only taken two falls and both were on that stretch just below the summit of Pharaoh Mountain while descending.

Despite the falls, I still climb the mountain, but now climb the north side and descend the south side, or go there and back from the south side.

There are very nice designated camping spots on the summit if you want to haul water up.

Glidden Marsh is a nice side trip, and the trail south of the summit puts you on the northwest side of Pharaoh Lake, which is the less over-used side.

I love this wilderness area!

This trail had a gorgeous brook that ran alongside for most of the hike. It was so beautiful and flowing heavily at the end of April. It had some nice mini waterfalls that made awesome photos. I did slip on some ice on the way back while trying to get on a footbridge to cross the brook, but I was fine. Nice little pond at the end, bring some drinks to sit and chill for a while. A fishing pole perhaps? Great trail, well worth the drive.

Absolutely beautiful views overlooking Schroon Lake! There’re some pretty steep patches, but completely worth the work for the view

Beautiful easy winter hike, first half next to the brook is incredible.

Fairly easy trail. Good push at the summit. Decent views from the top.

This is a short hike with some steep and rocky spots, but the views from the top definitely make up for the bit of work it takes to get there. the trail is one of the easier ones to follow that I have hiked in the Adirondacks. Nice and wide and well marked

Very nice, easy walk to a beautiful little pond. Toughest part is the drive on a beat up road. Out and back is 3.4 miles total, just a few slight inclines on the way there. The pond is a favorite of local trout fishermen. There is also a nice campsite at the end of the trail.

Beautiful, crystal clear pond, hike in is nice. You can drive in to trailhead with a vehicle that has all-wheel drive and some clearance, if you want to go to Crane Pond this way, be advised the road was flooded just past Alder Pond as of 9/13.

Nice, short hike with some steep spots, trail is well-marked and maintained. I was up and down in under an hour, view of Schroon Lake and Pharoah Mountain area is nice.

Only problem.....mosquitoes. Terrible. Use bug repellent. Also, spectacular, was 1.3 miles and continued on,end of trail, 1.7 miles
Great trail. Highly recommend.

The waterfalls on the road in are amazing. The walk through the woods to Goose Pond was filled with gorgeous boulders covered in moss and the quiet of the woods gave one a feeling of peace. Finally, the views and tranquility of Goose Pond led me to relax and enjoy the wonders of the Adirondacks.

A nice little trail that ends at a pond with some rowboats. Got to the pond, sat down, enjoyed the view and had a beer with the girlfriend. Saw two other groups.

A nice and easy family hike with a pretty view but definitely bring the bug spray- the mosquitoes were relentless.

It took us about 40 minutes to reach the top. It's fairly steep at times and you'll want to bring bug spray. The view over Schroon Lake is worth the time and energy.

Great hike- I wish we had driven in to the real starting point of pharaoh mountain- it would have saved an hour walking a flat car dirt road walk. The views at the top were so worth it.

Hiked in from crane pond on the North side. Love this trail. We hike it every time we're up. Great views of Pharoah Lake from the South sumit, and lots of blueberries.

Started from the trailhead at Rte. 74, basically a hike through a bog. Ascended via the north side of Pharoah Mountain, then descended to Pharoah Lake via a much steeper southeast trail. Absolutely beautiful views and an idyllic lake. Not another soul in sight. don't underestimate the Adirondacks--this hike took 6 hours for 14 miles and it kicked my butt.

SUPER BUGGY! These jerks bit through my clothing so really douse yourself.
Otherwise this is an excellent trail for young children because it's not too hard and there are no scary precipices for them to fall off. My 3yo did the entire trip down on his own. Beautiful views from the top.
