Walked in from parking on McKenzie Pond Rd. Very pleasant, largely flat walk. Bugs were out in force but the trail was pretty dry. Lots of raspberries. Beautiful view of the lake. The fork to the left for the lake at about 1.8 miles in is easier to see coming from this direction.

went from west to the pond - nice trip. easy trail

The hike as described here is to Mackenzie Pond Road NOT Mackenzie Pond. To get to the pond you have to make a very sharp right around 3.6 miles in and then go 1/4 mile - this is unmarked.

Though described as easy the mud and slippery rocks made it pretty unpleasant at times.

Lovely spot very close to town, available by your favorite watercraft. Mostly kayaks and canoes on this lake though some fishermen and pontoon boats. We did some of the southern portion as a half-day paddle and it was beautiful. The NY State boat launch gives very easy (and free) access with bathroom facilities. We saw bald eagles and loons. There are lots of campsites (permit required, need to reserve in February for July and August) and picnic sites on the lake that are beautiful.

this is an easy trail just as you leave saranac lake, just before railroad. used mostly for cross country skiing. I trail run it also. rarely used for mountain biking though. best in winter because it brings you out on Oseetah lake. otherwise, trails are short, and don't loop, so it's mostly out and back.

First, this is NOT near Bloomingdale. I need to find out how to get the description changed...Anyway, it is on the East side of McKenzie Pond Road about 1.25 miles from Saranac Lake (about 10 miles from Bloomingdale). My favorite trail run around. Short, at times rooty, and sometimes wet. But, its close by and I've run this more than any other trail. Lots of short ups and downs. Not really a hike, but a nice long walk in the woods. At 1.75 mile or so, you want to make sure you turn left towards McKenzie Pond. If you go straight, you will walk another 5 miles to Lake Placid over the saddle. Love the trail running here. XC skiing is good too, but not for beginners. Too many hills for that. Go back on the Kiwassa trails off 86 right as you are getting into Saranac Lake for that. It is a law (or should be) that when you get to McKenzie pond, you have to take a picture and Post it on Facebook. I do, just in case it ever becomes a law...

Beautiful area to canoe and kayak. A lot of other little ponds are easily reachable as well if you don't mind the portages.

Great flat hike to a scenic pond. Good for an afternoon walk in the summer or ski in the winter.

I love this spot. Tried to do the trip in the spring, but the meltwater floods prevented it. Fall was a better time. No crowds and temps are still good. Did a four-day three-night journey out of SOT kayaks. Launched from Upper Saranac Lake at Saranac Inn lanuch, camped on Buck Island, and portaged 1/2 mi to Middle Saranac Lake. From there we camped on Bartlett Island and paddled through the upper locks into Lower Saranac Lake. Camped on Fern Island and then paddled to our take out at Ampersand Bay. If you want, arrive a day earlier and camp at Fish Creek Ponds campground, run by the DEC. Reserve in season, get permit from ranger off-season.
