What an enjoyable hike
First two miles are a pleasant walk in the forest when you get two miles in the last mile is more difficult but nothing too difficult
Lots of moss and spots that look like fairies belong there
The tower was recently restored and VERY tall
Not crowded got there at 945 am and just one other car
Only encountered three other groups of people the whole day
I give this trail two thumbs up

As mentioned in other reviews, the first two miles are easy, with relatively small elevation gains. The last mile is a moderate climb with some tricky spots. The fire tower has been repaired - and provides the best views as most of the peak is wooded. I was unable to climb into the tower cabin as the wind was very strong and the tower was vibrating, a bit spooky on such a tall tower. The views from the top landing were just as good. Before making your way down, stop and see the helipad constructed for the tower repairs - there you will find another decent view. A nice hike.

Solid moderate hike on one of the first days that wasn't horribly hot in nearly a month. First 2 miles is relatively flat, last 1.1 miles from the sign is steep with a large amount of exposed rock. Two of the steepest sections have railings and one has a ladder. Bugs were horrible below the sign. Roughly 1.5 hours up, 1.25 down.

Fire tower foundation has been replaced, but it does not appear that any restoration was done above ground level. You need to climb a 7 foot ladder with no fall protection to reach the cab from the top landing.

There's a decent amount of parking in a lot off of the road at the trailhead. There was VERY heavy trail traffic even on a Thursday, likely because the trail was recently reopened.

Hiked this 7/16/18 with beautiful blue skies and very hot weather. Took about an hour and a half to reach the top, very slow incline until you reach the sign for the summit stating there is 1.0 mile to the summit then it is steep!! Very enjoyable hike!

Fire tower just opened back up for the public, they did a nice job. Strenuous and somewhat steep with a lot of bare rock on the last part, but the views are well worth the hike. There’s a sign that says “Wakely Mtn Observation 1.0 miles” right before the steeper section it’s definitely farther than a mile but nonetheless a well rewarding hike. Deer flies were my best friends on the way up that was the only issue

I haven’t hiked this yet, but the trail and Firetower have been REOPENED

This trail is not accessible in times of heavy snow. Cedar river rd turns into a snow mobile trail 4 miles from the trail head. Update: barley made it to the trail head with 4x4. Tower is closed, very dangerous to climb. Not recommend as a solo hike, coyote prints everywhere back there.

it was a great hike about 3 miles in and 3 out. was very well marked and easy to follow. sign as base says 1.0 mile and it's straight up and rocky went muddy. sneakers will not do it definitely ankle boots. tower and Ranger Station was awesome tower is the tallest one ! u have to climb up a metal ladder into the tower on the top but the views are breath taking will blow you away. careful on your way down can get slippery and can slide. lots of water spits for pups too. enjoy !

Beautiful trail in the fall. The fire tower is crazy tall and there was a slight wind up there, which was a little scary. Overall, though, a nice hike through beautiful fall trees to an amazing view!

This is one of the towers that's off the beaten trail. The seasonal road that the trailhead is located on isn't as bad as some of the other ones I traveled. The first 2 miles are relatively flat with minimal elevation gain, but the last mile is the steepest part of the trail. Views from the tower was very nice. The bug activity was horrible so if you hike this, make sure that you spray yourself before hiking.

Great fun. Really quiet area with limited fishing. We go back at least once a year!
