HikingGreat!

I am amazed at how wide this trail can be at certain times but then have to remember that it was a historic carriage road in the past. This trail offering everything one would expect to find in a forest. If you are looking for a beautiful leisurely hike around a gorgeous Adirondack lake with glimpses of a beautiful historic Great Camp, then this trail is for you. Bring the Whole family.

Nice little stroll on a post foliage fall day. There were 4 hunter's trucks parked at the trailhead on our arrival. We ran into one man on the hike in (he was coming out). We arrived at the pond and there was no one there. Look forward to doing this in the winter when everything is frozen and we can get around the bog like conditions around the pond and down to Bear Pond.

We were not able to get to the lake. The beaver dam made that part of the trail impassable. Maybe if we were wearing waders we might have been able to make it!

North Pt is private and there is sadly not much of a view since they look out the tower. Definitely buggy early in the season!

Its a very muddy mess at one point. There’s no way not to get wet up to your ankles But if you can stand that then this is a nice easy isolated hike

Easy at the beginning and quite well groomed. Steep and challenging to the summit. Don’t stop at the ferns- you’re almost there! Views not so great- only glimpses of the lake. On the way down bear off trail slightly to get a better look - you can see Strawberry Island and st Williams. Great waterfall and foot bridges! 1 1/2 hours to get to summit from lake entrance.

FYI- the directions for park and portage from North Point Road IS NOT ACCURATE. North Point is entirely private property now with no parking facilities and no launch area. There is an old Jeep Trail to hike, not drive, from Raquette Village.

Somewhat difficult trail owing to the backwood access point and light use. The pond is pretty amazing as it is one of those ponds that is shallow way out towards the middle. Trail was bug heavy and hard to follow but pristine untouched wild.

Many bugs in the areas with lots of water and mud. Nice winding trail through the woods with little white butterflies all around.

Fairly easy trip on old road. Sucker bay is very nice and Sucker Brook has a great waterfall and bridge structure.

Did this hike on an unusually hot Fourth of July. The description is very accurate. The first part of the hike is very easygoing. The trail to shallow lake becomes a little more difficult with exposed roots, some muddy patches and the bog. Here you will need to cross the small tributary using three long logs serving as the foot bridge to the other side. Once you cross the bridge you are a little more than halfway to the lake. Most of the trail is in beautiful wooded paths, the exception being the bog. We found the second half of the hike to be very buggy. The canoe mentioned in the description is now just shattered remnants lying near the shore. For whatever reason this does not appear to be a busy trail although we found it well maintained and clearly marked. We only saw one other family on the hike on this busy holiday in the Adirondacks. Overall it’s a pleasant hike if you can withstand the bugs.

Not a great view. Keep on hiking through to big moose road. Stay overnight at one of the shelters or ponds.

Always a good easy hike/climb steep near the top. Typical of ADK hikes. Limited view from top depending on what's been cleared

This was a great father's Day paddle/hike combo. We packed up the kids, 4 kayaks and the dog and we were at the water's edge by 10am. We checked the GPS and it read 3.87 miles to the Sucker Brook trailhead, the winds weren't too bad so we headed out. After a bit the winds picked up and the waves were coming over the kayaks as we paddled across the open water so we kept to the shore a little closer than we had planned and added on a half mile but we were at the trailhead within 2 hours. We traded our paddles and water shoes for boots and packs, enjoyed the hike, gave at least a quart of blood to the local skeeters and made a game out of how many deer flies we could take out (Acorn, our dog, was better at it than us). When we reached the summit we had some tired kids and a dog that spent the entire time chasing dragonflies. The summit was beautiful - the view, the warm sun -all of it was worth the effort. We enjoyed some lunch and then it was time to come down...always quicker. We made it down in less than an hour and hit the water again..only to realize the winds had changed and the traffic had picked up so the water was rougher and we were against it -this required some rearranging of paddlers and route which took a bit longer but we kept it fun and safe. Needless to say by the time we got to shore - almost 9 hours later - we were wiped. We had a great day, but we were ready for a bug free car! The dog must've agreed because she sat in one of the kayaks as we set the train up to carry the kayaks out and she wouldn't get out...she wanted a ride to the car! We carried her for about 10 feet which was enough for her to realize it wasn't as nice as the water and she was ready to get out. We made it to the car, had the kayaks on the trailer in record time and the kids were ready for ice cream! When we checked our track log we had almost 9 miles on the lake, 5.7 on the trails, 0.8 on the ports and some very happy, yet sore limbs. A great paddle/hike!
