An easy walk. No big cliffs, steep or rocky terrain. Views of the lakes, large rocks, trees and a small waterfall were great.

Nice trail, highly moderate in some spots, easy in others. Scenic and quiet. Although it was a beautiful day, few people on the trail, just like we like it.

I really enjoyed this trail. Beautiful scenery and two beautiful lakes.

I don’t know if it was because it was one of the first actual spring feeling days or what but this was an amazing little/easy hike around the pond. When you first get there, it’s a little loud with the road and all the people there bbq’ing, fishing and “partying” at the picnic tables but once you get far enough away, it’s not as loud and is very peaceful and beautiful.

I was looking for a short beautiful hike and this one was perfect! The trails were easy to follow (yellow->red->blue) and generally wide and smooth. Signs of spring are showing but there are a few final patches of snow. The stream crossings were challenging but doable with high water levels. Hiking poles came in handy for stability here! We turned left where the blue trail goes left to go down the Sunken Mine Road. Since it was around sunset, we saw a lot of beavers, two of which gnawing on trees along the shores. Very cute and fun to watch! The hike took us about 2 hours but that was with many stops for pictures and to enjoy the peace!

Beautiful snowy day with pussy willows in bloom by lake. Very peaceful on a Friday...can’t wait for all the mountain laurel to bloom!

Great for kids just starting out or for your first hike of the year and you need to lose some lbs without going to strenuous

Pretty loop to do in the winter. Fairly flat.

Easy quick hike!! Trail around pond was beautiful a day after some snow had fallen

The creek on the AT off Sunken Mine Rd was too deep to cross; a section of the beaver dam burst.
Returned via blue trail.

Quite a frigid day to hit this trail but it was lovely despite the fact it was 8 degrees when I started it. Began on sunken mine road and took the yellow trail to the blue trail and back to sunken mine road...overall slightly under 4 miles for the loop. Overall Trail was nice and easy

This is a nice trail with a few views now that the leaves are off the trees. Also added a part of CT Trail and that view is worth it.

Pretty views

After not feeling well for a few days this hike was the perfect medicine to feel better!! Took solace in the sound of birds and the breeze through the trees. Nice quick hike....pop unto the boulders for a beautiful view of the Hudson Highlands.

No views to see besides trees, narrow path, many rocks. OK.

Really nice, easy hike. We brought our 4 year old and he had no trouble. Excellent for kids and someone looking for a leisurely stroll

Great easy trail !

Fairly easy breezy trail. Good for dogs and great if you don't want much of a challenge and a lake view.

Great for people of all ages and hiking abilities. Couple of areas where you have to walk across tiny streams. Beautiful view of the lake and very well marked trail.

Fun trail with some easy stretches and a little bit of hopping across streams/climbing up/across rocks. It's very well marked but, as others have mentioned, you start taking the yellow trail, then red, then blue. Be mindful of those turn-offs (they're also well marked) and you'll be good. Suuuuuuper buggy, so keep your mouth closed!

Beautiful hike with lots of scenic spots along lake and on wider railroad trail. Make sure you take the red trail after the yellow wide railroad trail to complete the loop. We went 0.4 miles off on sunken rd and had to backtrack but it was beautiful. Took our 1.5 yr old but a little long and difficult in spots where we had to cross streams or rock formations.

Easy and exciting hike with great photo ops. Especially pretty but a little icy in the winter.

very relaxing and easy. Nice scenery

Nice long walk through nature and pretty lake view. The trail did not lead to any spectacular vistas, and even the hardest parts were not very challenging. I did find a tick on me so use bug spray! Overall, not bad; a good trail for beginners.

Easy to find from the parking lot GPS and clearly marked with blue blazes. We only made it halfway because the rain started coming down in buckets.

It may have become more moderate in the second half, but it was very easy except for a couple of small uphill stretches and one small scramble towards the start. Overall it felt fairly remote and far from suburbia, however, there were a couple of dirt roads running through. The topography changed throughout the hike - lake, dams, etc - which was nice and the trees were pretty. I wonder what the second half of the hike would have been like -- from the map it looked a little confusing as to which loop to take. Would go back and explore this trail and Fahnestock in general more.
