Great trail system. There is another mile or so of trails on the eastern side of the preserve.

Went there on a wimp... nice area with varying surroundings and natural life.... can’t believe I didn’t read the previous review thoroughly so kinda stuck in wet low land in the last mile or so on south loop... think would’ve been ok if I wore hiking boots instead of sneakers... oh well.

And pls spray plenty of mosquito repellent... otherwise you would’ve eaten alive like me! (I did spray but it didn’t work so maybe not enough)

very fun trail. Pretty well marked, Great paths

Took the southern loop. Well-marked trail and lots of signage providing additional information on the ecology. Because the trail briefly goes through a wetland area, best to avoid for a couple of days after a rain. Also, very limited parking (though it was very quiet on a Friday when we visited - only saw 2 other people, walking a dog).

the first time I went these trails were a lot easier to navigate winter has left it a bit different but adds the challenge. I recommend the blue trail.

Very nice set of trails close to New Canaan where I live. Good elevation changes

Hiked the Rock Trail on a Sunday in March. Still lots of snow on the trail but what a beautiful trek along the crest at the back of the park. Tough climb back up the stairs to Spy Hill, not made any easier because of downed trees and snow. Also visited the site of the old Fire Tower (no real view) and Indian Rock Shelter. Tons more to see that I didn’t get to. Will definitely be back!

Parts need trail maintenance after winter storms but overall a quiet, pleasant walk. Full perimeter is supposedly 6 miles. Humorous and informative signage abounds. Don’t go if you want sweeping vistas. A good place to clear one’s head.

Great trail!

Sunday, August 20, 2017

I did a 6 mile loop and it was phenomenal. Great botanical diversity and nice water features. I went early in the morning and had the place nearly to myself. I was tired by the end of my hike but not exhausted. I climbed the equivalent of 20 flights of stairs which is pretty decent. Definitely a good, regular hike for seasoned hikers but not too bad for beginners. I saw a guy trail running although I wouldn't have ventured that. There is a fee to park but if you like nice woodland (native plants and animals), for your hike, it's worth it.

Nice set of trails, varied terrain, streams to cool off in. Lots of wild raspberries and blueberries when we went July 24th.

This is one of many trails from the top of Michigan road. It is the easiest and the shortest. Try the yellow, red, or the RT from the same spot for more challenge.

The trust obviously cares enormously about this preserve. It's well-maintained, well-marked, and well laid out. There are informational signs all throughout on the ecology and history of the area as well as numerous trail markers with "dad humor" peppered along the way. The West Loop was very wet - probably not good for little ones.

Good local place for hiking. You won't find many views but it does offer pretty good trails through forest. Went in the morning in October and it was very quiet but I did hear more hikers later on in the day. The main trail is very easy to follow and maintained. The side trails only became slightly tougher walking on rocks but nothing too hard. Came across many deer while going through and some interesting spots pointed out on the trail map there. Definitely a nice, easy and quiet walk through the woods.

Very well kept. Easy to navigate. Not a lot of varied views. Very buggy. Still worth it. Great exercise!

Relaxed walk. I enjoyed the information on different trees. Trail signs are not easy to find. I took a few incorrect turns. Nothing really serious. The trail is slippery at times due to lack of direct sun light. I saw only one family in two hours. I would not consider it for a hard jog since at times one needs to be careful with branches and slippery rocks.

The main parking entrance was very hard to find. It didn't look like an entrance. When we walked in, it was very pretty. There were signs explaining the trees and such. However, midway the signs disappeared and turned into red dots. So apparently the red dots meant wrong way, leading to someone's backyard. And the other side of red was green marks. I guess a lot of people have gotten lost before. We backtracked our steps and couldn't find the markers to continue the loop. So we went back the same direction we came in. A bit disappointed but as the name says "wilderness".

Literally around the corner but had never been there. Went over for a quick hike today and was surprised at the variety of landscapes the trail takes you through. We did the western loop and half the southern loop. Even got the new layer cake rock loop that just opened. Will definitely be back to explore more of the trails.

Beautiful park in a wonderful part of town.

Thursday, March 31, 2016

well marked trails with dead trees, markers and an occasional map marked "you are here". rolling up and down with no asenrs more than 100 yards or so. nice woodsy environment. while not looking for birds, I saw a pilated woodpecker and red tail hawk. left from upper shad...after 1 tenth of a mile initial part was swampy, many exposed tree roots and some walking on stones - maybe 1 tenth of a mile...much better after that.

Lovely. For a walk without a natural highlight like a waterfall or view it is one of the best in Westchester. Trails are circuitous but well marked with fallen logs, which would make navigating difficult with snow. Careful placement of rocks enables you to pass without getting wet feet.

Nice level trails, the overlook is well worth the quick, but steep climb!

This is by far one of my family's favorite places to hike. The trails are well kept and we love the various information on the trail markers.
