There are snakes...

nice quiet hike. the lake was so relaxing. but I must say I heard a rattle snake. and on the hike back actually encountered and almost stepped on an adult timer rattle snake. watch out. my kids and dogs were unharmed, u think the snake was in a trace. we were lucky.

This trail is a hidden gem! Great for the moderate hiker with a steady incline, easy rock climbing and multiple stream crossings. We lucked out on the weather and caught a breathtaking view of the NYC skyline. So beautiful and a well kept secret! Let's keep it that way!

Great hike on a really hot day. I’ll do it again in fall.

Nice hike and not too difficult, you can make it in two hours. Unfortunately there is still a winter landscape but it was a good walk. Good signs but take a map if you want to decide where to go.

amazing trail

I loved this hike- I took about 3 hours. The vistas are great - and the lake is serene. Lots of rock walking- so shoe up accordingly. The eastern loop (red/white markers) isn't marked nearly as well as the west side (yellow), so watch closely for markers as you can go off trail pretty easily (or cheat with GPS :-) .....

The path cutting across from Red Cross to Longpath is not a real trail. It starts off looking like a forged path but my friend and I got stuck in a tangle of branches for about a quarter mile. After getting through (with cuts and bruises) the rest of the path was really pleasant. I would recommend staying only on the marked trails as the app map is inaccurate.

It's more of a paved stroll around the water. While there are moments with very nice views in the fall, overall it was unimpressive. It's a very easy walk if you have kids or elderly along with you.

Great trail. Began after spending the night at Big Hill shelter. Headed South. Trail ascends both Ladentown and Panther Mountains (the summit of Panther Mountain is a beautiful place). It rained the entire time I hiked it (Friday May 13, 2016), and I did not see another person. Turned West on Pine Meadow trail and set up camp at Pine Meadow Lake. The rain stopped at 6 and by 7 the sun was out. Perfect.

This review covers more than Rockhouse Mountain, but I could not find a better location to put this review. I started from the parking lot at Lake Skannatati and headed north out of the parking lot on the Arden-Surebridge trail up Pine Swamp Mountain. The hike was approximately 9 miles and takes the Red Crosses trail around Hasenclever Mountain and to the Tiorati Brook. You will return on the Breech trail up and over Nat House Mountain, past a Civil War cemetery, and Rockhouse Mountain. In all, I would rate this a moderate trail with on real difficult sections or climbs.

Nice hike, but not many views - could have been the overcast weather, but not much to see today. Started from the parking lot off of Diltzes Lane in Pomona and hiked out to the shelter on Big Hill via the Suffern - Bear Mountain Trail. Circled back via the Breakneck Mountain Trail to the junction w/ the Tuxedo Mountain Ivy Trail. Bushwhacked via an unmarked trail from Panther Mountain to the parking lot. I normally don't like to take unmarked trails, but this was very well marked. In all it was 10.7 miles and took me just under 5 hours. All in all - a so-so hike.

Over used. Crowded. Used to be cleaner. More of an afternoon stroll than a hike. Pretty. Less crowded in winter.
