Quick hike to the fire tower, which had beautiful views of the leaves changing! Definitely recommend wearing waterproof shoes because there are parts of the hike where you’re going through a stream or surrounding areas are muddied by the stream. Also it rained the day before we went so it was definitely more robust than usual

This was a nice quick hike. It took my boyfriend and I about an 90 minutes to go up and come back down and we stopped a few times to give the couple ahead of us some time. It was pretty steep but levels off in a few areas. It was a little rocky but not too bad, I did it in my sneakers. The view from the fire tower is so pretty and it’s the only view so if you don’t want to go up the fire tower I wouldn’t recommend this one.

Quick hike with rewarding views of Catskills and Mashomack Valley/ Pine Plains. I turned right at fork when going up and preferred the lesser incline and longer route. If you have a fear of heights, steer clear of the fire tower and know that there isn’t a view unless you go to the top of the tower.

nice little loop. I turned right at the split which turned out to be a slightly longer more gradual incline to the top. Cool fire tower at the top!

Great trail. A few muddy pieces but easy enough to get around. Bring bug spray TONS of mosquitoes during the warm months.

Steep with great views from the fire tower

A bit slippery in the ice, but pretty views of the pond and mountain in the winter with no leaves. Easy walk.

Short, quick hike with a huge payoff at the top. Took about 30-45 minutes to get up, 15-20 down. Views of the Catskills from the extra high tower are excellent!

This was a nice short hike that I enjoyed. I chose the trail on the right on the way up and the steep trail on the way down. Views from the tower were awesome, except the bees were very active up there.

This short steep trail leads to a fire tower with an incredible view. It is well worth any trouble it takes to get there. Check out my full write up which includes things to look out for.

Muddy and unkempt... but that just makes it all the more atmospheric on foggy rainy days in late winter!

Great trail. Very steep and rocky. Trail was flooded due to all the rain we recently had, but still beautiful.

Pretty easy hike up to the fire tower, a little steep at certain points but all in all pretty moderate . It was very cloudy when I went so I didn't get too much of a view . The fire tower is very cool the hike itself is alright.

Brutal incline to the left. This is a challenging short hike.

The yellow trail is a 2.5 mile loop. It is okay for the first and last mile but the south east section turns narrow and overgrown with some muddy parts, especially along the farm's barbed wire fence where the cows were congregated. I won't do it again.

It is a moderate to hard trail. Most of the trail is on a incline and on rocks. I usually hike with a walking stick and good things when I did this one I brought mine. But if you do forget yours or do not usually use one, I recommend grabbing one at the mouth of the trail.

A fantastic hike surround by 2 lakes. . The fire tower seems to be larger than the 'typical fire tower' Saw a water moccasin during the trek up. A great hike with a great view. Parking is easy. trail was well kept

I hiked Stissing Mountain last weekend. It was late in the day. The two lakes nearby are beautiful: Stissing and Thompson Lake. You can hike around them too which I may try another time. Parking is small and I saw smashed window glass so it may not be that safe.

The hike is short but relatively and constantly steep. The forest is deep and you get a nice internal view beneath the canopy. The trail was spotless and there was no one else on it at the time.

There is no outward view of the surrounding area until you get to the summit. There is a very tall fire tower on the summit. The 360 degree view from the top is sensational.

Bring mosquito repellent. I went down the way I came because it was late and although the trail is clear in daylight it was getting late, there are only trail blazes at forks in the trail. That being said, the trail is simple and it is doubtful you could get lost.

Not a favorite hike. Ugly trail and strenuous but views from the fire tower were nice. Would only do once. So many other beautiful hikes I'd rather do.

Thompson Pond is a wildlife sanctuary maintained by The Nature Conservancy. People are encouraged to visit the area but DOGS are NOT welcome! It is an easy 2.7 miles that can be hiked in less than 2 hours. The trail is somewhat narrow on the east side but passable nevertheless. The pond is home to large numbers of waterfowl.

A great trail especially in the fall (OCT-peak leaf season). I've never really had issues with other hikers...as in I've never really seen any other hikers.
FYI:The trail head isn't well marked.
The Fire Tower is an added bonus at the summit. There are usually Red Tailed Hawks,Turkey and Black Vultures soaring above and below the summit
I've hiked here several times and plan to take my kids soon. After the hike I recommend a cold Sam Adams and burger at the Stssing Mtn. Inn located in Pine Plains. Millbrook, NY (South on Rt 82) is also a great town to visit.

Well I didn't take the trail up OR down. We bushwhacked up until we hit the trail .2 miles from the top. And we decided not to take the trail down because there were so many people. But the view from the fire tower (HUGE fire tower) was beautiful. The summit under the fire tower is tree covered, but magical! The trail is covered in moss. I took off my sneakers.
