Great hike! The trip out on Overlook carriage road is easily managed and wide. Good views along the way. The Old Minnewaska trail is smaller foot path, beautiful forest scenery. Our mistake not needing the signs: took a stroller on Old Minnewaska, don't do that... The signs were not kidding: foot path only. Beautiful hike and kid friendly but wear long pants, can be slightly overgrown. Last leg 0.5 mi on red trail Shongum can be moderately difficult, with some scrambling over rocks, walking on planks over muddy areas. If that happens and some of your party doesn't want to continue that last 0.5 mi, you can send someone back to the parking lot at West Trapps and drive to Coxing to pick everyone else up

5 of us did the rock scramble and then over to Table Rock, had a blast, well marked and it happened to be a beautiful day. My boyfriend even asked me to Marry him that day at Table Rock!!!! :) Oh and I said Yes!!!!

We parked in a small lot at the end of Pine road. The trail to the pond is an old carriage road and is wheelchair accessible. The trail around the pond is uneven and narrow and would not be accessible to wheelchairs, but will be fine for children and people with minor difficulties walking.

We didn't see any ducks, but we did see a truly massive old snapping turtle rooting around in the lake shallows, as well as a green frog and some birds darting around over the surface of the lake. A number of friendly Mohonk Preserve volunteers were there, walking their dogs or just enjoying the late-afternoon light.

Really nice hike, beautiful day. Lots of little trails. You can just wander around and explore. We went up to the tower. It was quite windy at the tower. We had a free pass otherwise its $21 per person.

Great to see the bald eagle soaring above the lake.

Beautiful views

Nice hike to the top of Skytop Mountain. The ascent is steady, but moderate, and it provides great views of Mohonk Lake and Mohonk Mountain House from the beginning. There are several gazebos on the way up, which provide nice resting spots to catch your breath and enjoy the view. At the top, there is a stone tower that provides excellent views of the surrounding countryside, including the Walkill River Valley and the Catskills. There are several cliffs very near the trail, so I would not recommend this trail to people with a fear of heights.

Just a warning, if you aren’t staying at the hotel, the hike is a little longer. They have you starting at the entrance to the preserve. But it’s worth it for the scenery and awesome views.

$21 per person to park!!

This is a nice trail with great views all around

Why don't you let people know it's 21$ per person, and a 1,5mile walk to the start? I wanted to take my grandmother there and we were excited.

I went up the opposite direction and it wasn't too bad of a climb. The overcliff trail was mostly human made paths but the rest of it was though. I did this in about 2hrs and 30 minutes.

I absolutely loved it. You Park at the gate house and walk in. Adds about 4 miles to the hike (there and back) but it felt great. Mohonk is beautifully kept. Not strenuous at all, a couple inclines nothing bad. I went nice and early today and I had the hike to myself! It is $21.00 per person but if you have Mohonk Preserve membership it is $10.00

Thought this would be a shorter hike bringing my 6 yr old. Ended up being 6 miles round trip from parking. Very pretty up top though.

Beautiful and scenic hike during the fall months. A must !!

Some trials are a little difficult for a short while. I start hiking from the bottom entrance for a better workout. Most people travel from the resort but plenty of trails are around if you look.

Very easy trail. I ended up going on the weekend and it was ~$30/person to go hike! But it was worth it since I rarely go up to these parts. There are a couple trails in this area, so it's hard to tell where you are some times. But all trials either lead to the top where that tower is or the bottom, where the lake is. Basically the short cuts are difficult, and straight up the mountain, but you can take the easy long way. You could probably take a motorized wheelchair up those easy paths if it had some tread. I would only go here if you had family from out of town. There are bathrooms, and a hotel and benches, so everyone can participate. If it were just me on a regular weekend, I wouldn't spend that kind of money.

Whether hiking in from the Mohonk Preserve, the MUA, or Mountain House Grounds this is an exciting, challenging, and beautiful hike. The first time I ever completed it was my first weekend of college at SUNY NP back in the fall of 2006 and I'll never get sick of going back.

A great easy hike! We took about 3 hours doing the entire loop- took a lot of time on Undercliff taking pics. Our dogs also loved the hike (which is actually a flat walk.) We saw a couple families so kids can definitely handle the hike, although the entire 5 mile loop might be a bit long- we were pretty worn out by the end! It cost $12 per person to go in btw.

Really nice trail!!
