Did this with my dog and it was spectacular! We kept a good pace without more than a few minutes to stop for a break and we were up to the fire tower in 1 hour and 20 minutes. Same amount of time to descend. As others have said the first two miles are a mix of level terrain with a few sections of moderate elevation change. The last mile or so, especially after the the site of the old observer's cabin, is VERY steep. In spite of this it's very rewarding as the trail is in great shape and the views at the top are remarkable! If you don't want to ascend the tower there are outstanding views at two points at the summit. This would be a great choice to prepare for hiking in the Adirondack High Peaks due to it's length and elevation gain. Fantastic hike!

Did this and the others from the Tupper Lake Triad all in one day! Such a fun challenge.

Great hike. It is short but the whole trip to the vista is uphill so a good workout for us middle aged folks. The view is absolutely spectacular.

Love this mountain, trail, observer's cabin, and of course the Fire Tower! It is always nice to have a well maintained Fire Tower to climb when you get to the summit. The first two miles of this hike is fairly straight forward...a slow tapering elevation climb that is moderately easy. The last half mile tends to get a little steeper and a little more strenuous. Expect to maybe use your hands a little as to attempt to navigate and scramble the last quarter mile up to the summit. From the summit there are 180 degree views looking East, North, and South of Long Lake.

This is like our 10th time hiking to this mountain. It never gets old. It is so secluded out here. So underused, what a shame. has some of the best views of the McRorie Lake, Mud Pond, Cedarlands, and the Long Lake area.

The best of the Tupper Triad! Even though it lacks Mount Arab's fire tower, it has views in all directions for miles! Rivers and lakes in distance, along with countless mountains. The summit is also large, so if it's a crowded day there should be plenty of room to take in the views. The trail itself is in great shape and is basically a more gradual version of Mount Arab. DO THIS!

View is great

Moderate to easy, though small pooches and some kids may have some trouble with a little rock scrambling. For the most part, this is a walk in the woods with some climbing at the end, but nothing real serious. Excellent views. Will take at least an hour to summit, though if you're slow probably like 1:45.
Lots and lots of tourist citidiots on this trail. Denim warriors with no trail etiquette abound.

By far my favorite of the Tupper Triad. An easy hike with a beautiful summit.

Our last hike of the day to complete the TL Triad. It was a great hike. There were students out on the trail doing maintenance. Many thanks to them for maintaining the trails!

Previous reviews are spot on. I will only add that this trail could use trail work. There is a lot of “trail spread “ where people have tried to avoid a)mud b) blowdowns c)slab d) stream beds. Fantastic views from on top.

Super easy hike with an outstanding view. Nice and dry right now.

Did this 6-1-18 Saturday. Beautiful blue sky 70 degrees. Not much mud like everyone first 2 miles is easy last mile is tougher. Once you reach the ranger foundation you think your good but nope another short but steep climb. Well worth doing though.

This was our second peak for the Tupper Lake Triad. Amazing summit for a little mountain. True 360 views. You can see the other Triad mountains (Goodman & Arab), Mount Morris, the Sewards, Santanoni's and many other High Peaks.

At the top now over looking amazing views! Hike was fairly easy the first 2 Miles. Started to climb last mile with lots of rocks and mixture of mud/water. 14th fire tower in the books. Definitely one of my favorites! Fire tower is open .

The views at the top were gorgeous ! First two miles are definitely easy but the last mile is challenging for anyone without experience hiking. Rather steep incline especially after the first false peak. Snow shoes highly recommended. Took us about 3 hours round trip with conditions

This hike was the completion of the Tupper Lake Triad challenge (third completion, 2 X Winter, 1 X Summer). This hike is one of those best bangs for the buck kinda mountains. When ever we have friends visiting who not not regularly hike, we take them on this hike.

Easy little hike. Part of the Tupper Lake Triad. I did the three little mountains today. Easy trail with nice views at the top. About 2.2 miles round trip. Icy conditions today. If your using crampons (I did) it is a piece of cake.

Snowy trail, made well for the rocks/ no slipping, as the snow was very packed down and 2-3". Outstanding views of the high peaks.

Great hike. Reached the summit in 37 minutes. Completed as part of the Tupper Lake Triad. Lots of leashed dogs and families.

Everybody’s review is quite helpful. Just want to add that from photographing point of view that views will be partially blocked by the pine tree around fire tower. Also for the same reason, i would personally prefer go to Goodnow Mt. In the area.

I found this to be a challenging hike for me, as I'm a beginner. But the views at the top made everything worth it. The entire experience took us 4.5 hours with about 45 minutes or so spent at the summit. I loved it

Really nice hike starts with a pleasant walk they the woods
Not terribly difficult a few rocks to maneuver but all in all a pleasant day trip
Took 2 hours to go up and 1.5 to come down

The first mile is a pretty mellow hike... then there's 1.5 miles of incline to the old observer's cabin. From here it's all up! Requires a couple spots you need to do a bit of rock climbing, but it's worth it. Beautiful views on top.

First 2 miles is very flat with a few grades near the beginning of the trail but nothing too bad. Around 2.1 miles you hit the mountain and it does get steep in places but push through it! There's a small reprieve at the site of the old caretaker's cabin before the final stretch. Fire tower is worn but worth it and the views from the summit are well worth the effort
