A few sections with some steep ascents but overall nothing too challenging with little to no scrambling needed. Go on a clear day, views are awesome!

Hard. Beautiful. AT in great shape, rest of trail segments need some love.

Nice views of the Hudson. Had done this same hike a few years ago. Would not rate this as hard.

As others have said, difficult to follow. Other than the AT section, blazes are not very well maintained and a couple of junctions are very confusing. Had a map and AllTrails open at all times, and still made a number of wrong turns. Wasn’t a big deal in terms of time, but way less fun with your head buried in a map. If you live in NY area and itching to get out and do a workout, fine. Otherwise, meh.

Once it reopens would recommend breakneck ridge instead. Much more challenging and no navigation drama. Plus post hike in town of cold spring is great.

Did a hike for 8 miles. Went through Bald,Dunderberg and West mountain.

This hike covers 3 mountains and it was pretty challenging one. We took 5 hours with lots of breaks due to cramps. Please do carry enough water and not end up like us.
The hike is 9 miles with 2000+ feet overall elevation gain.
I would love to give the hike 5 stars mainly due to the varied terrain and the workout quality, but I’m reducing to 4 stars because I feel the hike is a bit under maintained and could be made even better. Also, there are just too many flies and insects which made us all the more irritated. Although not bringing a good insect repellent is completely our fault. We even saw a huge snake.
Also, be sure to download the map as it’s very easy to get lost( the markers are not great) and you won’t get any signal for half the hike.
The parking space is also less so we ended up parking by the road.
But if u have the bases covered to handle or not mind the above shortcomings, I would surely recommend this hike- it truly was an amazing workout.

Ridgeline is rocky with many short steep climbs. Not difficult but fatiguing for some of our group. If you prefer flat wide trails, this is not it. Views are spectacular.

I hiked with Hannah, who beat me to a review. I agree with everything she says below. Such beautiful views, as you hike you are able to see a gorgeous view from almost all directions, just not all at once. It breaks up the hike quite a bit.
There are definitely times where many trails seem to intersect the actual hiking trail, and it got confusing, so you definitely need to have a map ready, as Hannah says in her review. If our friend hadn't had that with him we would probably still be out there, and we are all pretty experienced hikers.
It was fun to get to walk through the abandoned remains of Doodletown at the end of the hike, even though it is really overgrown and hard to see. I'd like to check that out once the leaves are gone.
The hike is LONG, so don't leave too late in the day!

This hike is awesome! Great views, three peaks, vastly different forest ecosystems, but also closer to 10 miles and at times its very easy to lose the trail. Make sure you have your trail map downloaded because cell service is spotty and come prepared to hike at least 10 miles. We got surprised by the way extra three miles, but it was totally worth it.

Very beautiful views, but not easy. This loop covers many different trails and its possible to take a wrong turn. Make sure you have a hard copy map in case your battery dies.

Beautiful New York hike. Stayed for sunset and views were awesome

Moderate hike with several viewpoints. Relatively popular trail where I usually pass at least 6-10 fellow hikers before completing the loop trail. Check for Oktoberfest events in the Fall to treat yourself to German cuisine and a post-hike beer.

cool short trail if ur dogs afraid of dirt bikes bikes and 4 wheelers be careful as it is also a bike trail

I have done this hike a few times and love the views and the variety of the terrain. Always like to extended to the West Mountain Shelter and then go down on the AT to Beechy Bottom Rd.

We did this hike today and we enjoyed it. View was amazing. There are moments when you have to climb up a few rocks to get the view but it was all worth it! We followed the blue trail all the way and back.

We took the Anthony Wayne up to the Turkey Hill lake, then looped around in the red, to the blue past the shooting range and finished off on the white. Nota bad hike, but expect the first 45 minutes of that loop to be coddled by the hum of the highway, since you end up crossing about 3 of them (or roads of some sort). Not all of these were very quiet when we were here either. Wouldn't do this same trail again given this and honestly would prefer a quieter walk. The red trail was great, but unfortunately not the majority of that loop. 5.7 miles in total took us about 2.5 hours walking time.

We took the Fawn trail from Anthony Wayne to the Red trail...At that point it was suppose to intersect with the AT (white) but we ran into a old unarked road as most of the trailmarkers were spray painted over because they moved the AT??...So White was suppose to go to Red. So thankfully we had a compass because we would have been lost...We took the old road to the east (right) to the Red and Yellow trail. We were trying to get to tthe Yellow to the Blue for the ridge walk...After a jaunt on the old road we found the yellow trailhead...I have to tell you that Yellow was not mellow!! Steep incline lead us to some terrific views of the Hudson, Perkins and Bear Mountain..after reaching the Summit we proceeded on some ups and downs until we got to the Blue marked trail...which was actually the ridge walk..Real great views and cliffs overlooking the East and West. At the end of the blue trail markers were not visable..unless I took a detour....
Overall great hike. If your in good shape don't sweat it..If your a weekend warrior your going ot be sweating it out on the yellow trail...
