Great views from summit. Very steap on way down with rock scrambling. Be careful.

Very pretty trail - lots of great look at points. Watch your markers -

Fantastic hike. Varied terrain. A bit hard with some rock maneuvering but not dangerous. Definitely a core workout. The views and memorial at the summit are totally worth it. I recommend hiking or trail shoes. IMO is best to start it at the lot in Fort Montgomery, this way you’ll be able to unwind towards the end by trekking it down to the creek.

Great hike up to one of the best overviews on the Hudson. The fact that you are set back a bit from the river makes it very dramatic, and the soldiers' memorial and cairn at the top is very moving. I did this hike clockwise, which I think is the best way. You have to follow busy roads for about a half mile from the hiker parking lot before you hit the trail that runs along the creek, but there are some nice views along the way. The Popolopen Gorge Trail has a fair bit of elevation gain, with some small views of the creek until you hit the footbridge where the blue Timp-Torne Trail meets it, Then it's a pretty steady ride up to the Torne with some really fun rock scrambling to get to the top. Enjoy the great views then head back down the other side, which is steep in places but has some ropes to help you down. The last part of the hike back on the blue trail is fairly uneventful, and you have to watch the blazes carefully, as you cross and follow roads a few times before you go under the bridge over the gorge and end at Fort Montgomery. You could add a loop around Brooks Lake if you wanted, but we didn't.

Start by crossing the Bridge, then crossing the road and entering the woods. More difficult to manage down the big rocks if you start on the trail at the edge and of the parking lot. Great trail though!

I started nearby the Fort as well. Guess i'm not as strong of a hiker that I thought I was, as this hike damn near killed me. (however, the weather was about 100 degrees that day). coming down is very hard so be sure to take care. amazing views.

This was a great hike and a nice loop. Well marked, but it does switch over from the blue trail to the white with red trail in order to make it a loop. There’s a great view at top but it’s a very steep climb/decent no matter which way you come from. I would recommend having a good pair of hiking shoes. Definitely on the more difficult side if you are going to go to the peak. You are right on the water for most of it which is nice, we’ve had a lot of rain so it was roaring.

If I could I would give it 3.5 stars, varied terrain with some nice views, it is a moderate difficulty imo, there is a lot of road noise along the way unfortunately but anyway with this close proximity to NYC it was a good outing.

A nice trail. Not very crowded pretty forest. The trail is Rocky I suggest good shoes. Enjoyable afternoon. Even though it was hot trail was pretty much in shade and stayed relatively cool. We went up on yellow about 1.8 miles up the trail is a lento. right after the lento you need to make a left on trail white. I missed that marker and continued on yellow for but about a quarter-mile. I needed to retrace my step but not before I found a beautiful large untouched ripe blueberry patch.

Great trail to hike. Done it now about 4 times in both directions. Love the fact that it’s mostly in the shade.

Fantastic Hike. Coming down wasn’t easy so be prepared. Loved this hike. My favorite hike so far!!!

Extended it over to West Mountain and back in a big loop. Mostly woods hike but nice. There was a Rattlesnake hanging out at the Brien Memorial Shelter. Crossing the Palisades Parkway was a little sketchy.

I had this rated at about a 3 star until I got to the point where the trail (green markers I think) and the map on the app diverged when I got near art 6. Before that the trail was a good challenge and well marked. Only downside was gunfire in the background from nearby military training/WP. Everything went downhill after that... I ended up walking along the highway, which felt very uncomfortable, and cut my hike short. I did this trail for the purpose of getting to lake Te Ata, named after an amazing Native American woman. Were it not for that I would have opted another trail based on reviews. My feeling is that there are plenty of other places to go around The area with beautiful views and more peaceful setting...save yourself the aggravation...go for something else.

Well I attempted to do the shorter version from Mine Road. I really wanted to get pictures of the memorial but at as I got up to the final scramble, I could barely get up as I began to slide down and decided it wasn't worth the risk. Don't let this scare you as I was carrying a heavy DSLR. If there is another way,let me know. I may attempt it again with less weight but not sure if it would have made a difference or not for me. I was so disappointed :-(

The summit and the view was amazing - especially on a clear, sunny day. Some spots were tricky too which was unexpected and welcomed.

Nice trail. I must mention it is not completely out away from civilization so you may hear cars at times. Aside from that very beautiful trail and lovely view at the top.

Nice and mild. Easy for the kids.

Didnt realize part of this hike was off trail and hard going even in spring.

Hike begins on the 1777 Trail from Fort Montgomery, which is a pretty cool place to check out as well. The 1777 Trail meanders for awhile, across a road and sometimes along the road which I found slightly annoying but it's all about the payoff!! Eventually the trail stays in the woods along Popolopen Creek, look for a blue blazed trail to your right at some point. I opted to take the second blue trail to ensure a loop, this also allowed me to enjoy the bridge which crosses over the creek. Nice climb once you get into the blue trail, view at the top is stunning, 360 degree views. There is also a Memorial at the peak which is the culmination of the "Trail of the Fallen".

Excellent views. First half of trail is a steep ascent to a ridgeline hike and second half is very flat.

Great short hike. Got some good incline. Beautiful view from the top.

Winter Hike right after the storm where we end up with about 3 feet of snow and completely wet, but the views were amazing...

The west/southwest part of this trail is non-existent. Literally. We found it but only because there’s no foliage in the undergrowth. If there were, it’d be unfindable.

You can string together a bunch of good sections - but be warned: you’re not going to do this ‘kite’ loop unless you’re prepared to break out your Sherlock Holmes magnifying glass.

It was ok. Decent hike with some good inclines but definitely not "hard." There were a few pretty spots but the best veiws were from the parking lot. I haven't hiked the area before but I got the feeling there were other trails near by that would have been much better.

Good short hike - doge loved it

An ok hike. Not spectacular but had some pretty places and nice spots.

Park at the first lot near the 6/293 intersections to minimize road walking. Empty YMCA camp was interesting. Long Path is a great trail, few nice up and downs on the north side of Route 6. Torrey Memorial has a nice view of Bear Mountain and Popolopen Torne with Turkey Hill Lake below.

Excellent hike, beautiful views of the Hudson River, and moving monument to soldiers who have served. This hike is has payoffs in the exercise, in the views at the top, and in the sense of solemn pride for the sacrifice of those honored at the memorial at the top. Great day hike.

Great views of lake and amazing with the snow!
