Gowanda, New York Map

Some of the triails are not marked properly can get confusing as to were you need to go. But it is still a Beautiful hike.

Beautiful hike, walking through the water is fun but the rocks are slippery and the current gets strong at times so just be careful, but a great representation of the gorgeous upstate NY, waterfalls are picturesque! There’s a couple different trail heads, the directions through this app are reliable and the trail starts at the end of a dead end seasonal highway road so don’t be confused when the gps sends you to “unknown location” !

we saw a Woodcock it was good and it was a little slippery I saw about thirty deer in all I wish we saw a black bear.

An absolutely beautiful day hike. Just be cautious because the trails need maintenance, there are a lot of fallen trees on the trails, which could prove an issue especially for kids. The white trail is pretty easy to navigate, but the section of the yellow trail after the ravine and deer lick falls gets sketchy because there is no actual trail because of debris. Hard to locate next marker due to circumventing fallen trees. My advice is bring a map and just stay alert for markers.

There are 5 different colored marked trails that vary in distance. They are all easy to navigate and no hunting is allowed , so no worries during hunting season.

Beautiful creek. Fun walking in the water

Monday, October 02, 2017

Needs maintenance;trees down along some points of yellow trail and markings across creek not obvious. Others hiking said blue trail was full of "prickers"
BUT it's gorgeous shady terrain.

There are some places you'll have to walk in the water so bring shoes for that and maybe a stick to help with balance in the slippery spots. Map to get there was confusing at the end; from Peter's Point Road, stay straight onto the dead end Forty Rd. when Peter's Point turns right. I had to backtrack to get to the trailhead.

Zoar Valley in Gowanda NY is my 2nd favorite trail overall (2nd to Letchworth State Park). The views of the Gorge cannot be compared to anywhere in NY State. The best part of the hike is that it allows you to walk alongside the creek (sometimes dangerous), taking in the most beautiful sections of the park. The fishing is the best in the area, but be prepared for a hike to find a good hole. I haven't been there in several years but I plan on visiting the next time I return to the area. Much of the trail can border the river but there is much foliage if you prefer a walk in the woods. The most breathtaking view is the view at the top of the Gorge, Yes it is beautiful and yes you will fall to a quick death if you get too close to the edge. There are no fences or borders along most of the trails and your only chance of survival is the Grace Of God Almighty. Just a warning ... many people have died there over the years and still there are a few who still think its funny to get drunk or clown around a 300 foot drop ... stay alert and you'll be fine. Don't mind the "Kill Joy" reviews ... theres much to experience at this park, and views that you can't get anywhere else.

Pretty easy hike, but be mindful of the terrain

Wonderful for a day trip with friends

It was a good hike, however the waterfall was disappointing. I was expecting a little more, it was still a nice hike though!

Very beautiful setting. I went last summer, so I forgot which trail(s) we took, but ended up at the water over a small waterfall. Really enjoyed walking along the creek. Great photo opportunities!

Great relaxing walk

We did the White trail, very well marked. You had to pay attention to trail markers when you do the loop, a little more spread out. Lots of ups and downs but we survived them. One partial view of gorge. A few places had trees down across the path.

Hiked white trail to the end and back. No one else on the trails today. Trails are well maintained and marked. Not many views of the valley/gorge on the white trail because of foilage. At end of trail can get a glimpse of the gorge through the trees. Plan on going back soon to do yellow trail to the falls. Very quiet relaxing place to take a hike. Not to hard, few ups and downs but nothing to strenuous.

Did about 3/4 of the white trail with mom and the boys, 5 and 10, for Mother's Day. Proximity of the trail to the drop offs made mama a little nervous with the 5 year old but in general the trail was great. The blazes are well marked. The area has a great feel to it, many vines that look like they've been there since the jurassic period. The sign in sheet and community hiking stick pile at the start were a great touch. We'll definitely return.

Mostly well marked, easy hike.

Couldn't seem to find out how to get to the waterfall viewing area though...

Nostalgia. This was a beautiful creek hike I did many times as a child. Ruined by people littering and getting themselves stuck or hurt down in the gorge. Really quite a shame. The falls was beautiful, and evolved over time. Does anyone remember the giant rock that used to sit at the top of the falls and the "cave" it created below it? Then the giant log, that someone tied a rope to so you could attempt to climb it with the water beating down on you? What an amazing place, the grooves in the creek bottom were very interesting too. Little"shoots" that propelled you fast down the stream. We also joked that it wasn't zoar valley, but soar valley. Good times

Hiking is ok. Waterfalls are a little disappointing. Still, not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

I enjoyed my hike immensely! Trails are well marked, well the orange trail is a little difficult to see...so pay attention. Lots of great scenery....quiet...friendly people....be sure to take the white trail all the way out...great view of the river from about 400 feet above...enjoy yourself!
