Great trail. Moderate is definitely accurate in this case. There are a few spots with an incline but they are not very steep. The slate chairs are fun and there’s an excellent view. Once you get past the chairs, you can head towards Twin Mountain, however there is a bit of a scramble right before the end of the blue trail that we decided to skip. The trail is very well marked. It’s very muddy and somewhat buggy.

Great trail. Varied and fun. I did run into a bear on the ledge which prevented me from seeing the view.

There were a few places with good views, but it was muddy. It felt like a kayak would do better than trail shoes in a place or two. It rained the previous day. The trail is not dog friendly. In one place, there is almost vertical wall to scale - maybe 6 or 7 meters, with good roots and for both hands. No way to carry a dog with you. To be fair, there was a guy with a medium sized dog. Don’t know how he solved that task. I saw people in their 70s enjoying this trail. Overall great experience, though a bit more than I bargained for. I had 4 encounters with mosquitoes, but it was rather easy to take care of since they did not try to fly away when swatted at.

Just about as hard as it gets for Catskill hiking. A 20-foot nearly vertical scramble, along with several other challenging sections. Jimmy Dolan Notch is a magical place, and the view from South Twin is spectacular, but you won’t find a view at the actual summit. A few decent overlooks along the Indian Head section of trail as well. We took the path counter clockwise and in this direction you encounter the steepest scramble from above after passing over the summit of Indian Head. Hard to say if this steep spot would be more difficult going up than down, but several of us managed it fairly well going downward. At a moderate pace with several breaks we were on the trail for 6 1/2 hours. Approximately 9 miles.

HikingGreat!

Started at 8:10 am, took our time and got to the point 90 minutes later. Only saw one person on the way up; maybe 4 or 5 small groups (1-3 people) coming down. Not muddy or buggy and on the easier side of moderate. View is really nice - spent at least 1/2 hour up there with no one else there except the 2 friends I was hiking with. Best part of the day though was a refreshing swim under the waterfall across the street from the trailhead. Perfect way to end a very enjoyable hike. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! (Walk out of the parking lot, turn right and walk a few hundred yards. You'll see the trail on the left.)

Great hike- well marked varying elevations to to the point! Quiet buggy tho and somewhat muddy in the beginning guessing due to the recent rain fall! Definitely worth it!

I hiked counter-clockwise, starting with Twin to get most of the elevation gain out of the way early. A few fun scrambles. Great views on Twin and especially past the Indian Head summit. Hiked on Monday, 7/6, starting just before 7 am and saw 5 people total.

Great trail. A long slow incline until the last big upward push closer to the summit. Great lookout about 10 min from the summit.
