Very nice hike , no real challenges just a steady incline. Trail well marked and maintained. As with all firetowers, amazing view at the top.

My fiance. My 6 year old daughter and i rode our mtn bikes around the loop. We had a blast. It had a fee sections hard enough with clinbs and descents to keep it fun for me. But there was enough easy riding for them. We had a great time and capped it off with a seim at the beach. Id highly recommend this trail!

Beautiful secluded lake and nature walk ⭐️

Hiked up to Stillwater Fire tower with 2 of my kids. A long drive in from either direction with a mix of paved and dirt roads. We took "Number Four Rd" from Lowville out to "Stillwater Rd" on the right. Then we followed "Stillwater Rd" almost to the end, but took a right onto unmarked "Big Moose Rd". (If you get to the boat launch/restaurant/store at the end of Stillwater Rd, you've gone about 1/4 mile too far.) The trailhead was down Big Moose Rd a mile or so.
This place is really out in the middle of the boondocks! One of the most remote areas for sure. The trailhead parking was very small: enough for 1 car, 1 DEC vehicle and a disabled spot. The trail is in great shape, well worn and easy to follow with blue DEC disks. There is a steady, easy ascent up with no steep sections. Volunteers have done a great job with the tower rehab and signage and the views from the cab are very nice. If possible, I would recommend combining this short hike with some camping and fishing in the area to make the most of the long drive.

This is a beautiful hike with winding wooded paths up to a restored fire tower. It is a steady incline all the way to the top but very manageable. There’s a little picnic table at the top. The dirt road to get to the trailhead was the slowest part of the trip.

Beautiful lake, bird and wildlife viewing. Have to keep a quick pace and run from the bugs!

Fun and easy trail. Bring your kids!

Hiked the trail today, took about and hour and a pint of blood the mosquitoes took. Great trail, recommended !!

Hiked 6/2 as it was my 19th fire tower hike. Very easy trail, took about 45 mins or so round trip. Fire tower was awesome and patriotic! Beautiful views from the tower. Recommend bug spray !

Beautiful trail, 0.9 mile well marked trail to the tower. Tons of mosquitoes but the view from the summit is worth it. Easiest mountain I have completed so far. Another fire tower complete!

Hiked the trail today, was nice easy hike. Falls were very nice. However it’s not a loop trail anymore, after the falls at the east end of the lake I continued NW on the trail to circle back around and ran into an impassable swamp, trail vanished. Had to backtrack the way I came. Lots of animal scat on the trail too, watch your step :)

This trail was very well maintained and the fire tower offers a great view.

Easy hike, be easy on the dirt road on the way. Hardest part of the whole thing.

always a beautiful hike

Steady uphill walk and the way back was much faster. I'm happy they opened this up.

Nice easy hike. Waterfalls is very nice. Only a few muddy spots but no rain lately. The lake is beautiful and peaceful.

Nice hike. Waterfall at end of the lake was roaring. Nice tree colors and some mud but easy to get around.

Great views on top, especially from the newly refurbished fire tower. Easy hike, a mile out and a mile back. I would definitely suggest an early hike because the crowd shows up close to noon. The trail is well marked and can be slick in some spots due to traffic. Well worth it...

Great ride if you are looking to go fast. The double track section runs around Moss Lake, and is quite easy. Some sections on the far side of Moss lake have a slight incline with loose rocks, but overall very manageable. If you get to the spur trail out to Sis & Bub take it. It's a fun stretch of single track. Not a lot of elevation change, but some fun rocks and roots to go fast over. This section is more technical than the loop around Moss Lake. The spur trail eventually gets to the vista trail which is insanely difficult. I would not advise doing it unless you have a lot of mountain biking experience. Once you get to a good section on the spur trail turn around and go back to Moss for roughly a 5 mile cruise.

P.S
There was a down tree on the spur trail where I turned around. 9/16/17.

Easy hike rained while I did but was still fun no real views at top but well maintained tower anther 1 down

The trail is an easy hike overall with only a few sections that have more gradual incline. Trail was well marked. The majority of the path was dry but did run into some muddy areas, which is to be expected, after a week with some rain. The mud was mostly able to be avoided by walking to the side. The waterfall was easy to find on the 2nd visit however the 1st visit to this trail a few years ago I actually managed to miss the waterfall probably due to a drier season and did not hear the obvious running of the waterfall that year. Also discovered an outhouse near the bigger opening on the hike that set back a ways which may be helpful for those that desire a bit more privacy.

Very easy and beautiful hike! Only downside was that the trail was VERY muddy. Nothing we couldn't handle though! Lovely tower also!

It was a great easy hike. Wasn't as muddy as we thought(it poured all yesterday). Trail is well marked. Dirt road to get there for about 9 miles but you have to expect that and it was a wide well travelled road. Bill the cabin stewardess was there and told us great stories where we really got the feel of its history. Just a great hike all around!! So glad it's been restored and is accessible to the public!

I hiked the trail counter clockwise to see the falls first and the old camp site last. A nice trail, but very buggy. (When is a trail ever not buggy after rain in Aug?) Some repairs taking place after the falls and I had to follow the ribbon markers for a while.
If i were to go again, I'd reverse direction and stay a while at the lake. 3 hrs to complete.

Started by taking the trail to the beach at Moss lake and looped around back to the trailhead then went (back) right at the trailhead and walked to the trail leading to Bubb and Sis lakes and on to the trailhead on Rt. 28 attempted to do the Vista Trail as well but once to a certain point could not go any further with a 2 year old in tow-not very well kept then went on back to finish the Moss Lake loop and go back to our car. Rated at 3 because the trail is not highly trafficked and is extremely muddy in parts with little to no path around also there is no guide for Bubb and Sis lake trail or Vista Trail so you pretty much have to own your own map and hope it's there or wing it.
