Trail tougher than I anticipated. Went a couple days after some heavy rain. Very muddy and swampy in portions. Snow on the ground in early November. Beautiful views of lakes with snow covered trees in background. Make sure and walk off trail 50 yards, when lakes visible on hike to enjoy the beauty.

trail was great, there are two different ways to get to the end. blue or yellow, the app follows blue, we took yellow because it said the distance was closer. I think there may have been more terrain though.

Great trail, beautiful lake. However, the trail can be a bit confusing. After the first mile there are two choices. You can either go to the right which takes you to a nice waterfall then follow the trail to the the lake. Or, you can take the trail on the left which take you to the best part of the trail around the lake. My choice would be to go to the left, clockwise around the lake. if you do choose to go right and see the falls first you will continue to follow trail and avoid the marsh. Keep to the right! It may feel like you're moving away from the lake but you'll be seeing it soon and it's beautiful! Have fun!

trail not marked properly.

Great trail to see the lake and the waterfall. we climbed above the waterfall and enjoyed the river and view from the top. we found great areas along the lake to relax and found that camping is allowed.

We’ve done this trail before, and it’s a lovely one for views and seeing fall colors. But we got there today and were very disappointed to see it’s closed from the second Tues. of October through December 20th.

Very nice trail and not too hard for those out of shape. You have to go up the fire tower to get any views. The fire tower has been restored and is awesome. Depending on where you are coming from the drive can be a beast especially when you hit the portion at the end where the pavement ends and its another 7 miles on the dirt and gravel. ALSO! Depending on your route to the tower, make sure you check for local events so you don't get stuck for two hours like we did at the worlds biggest trash bazar in warrensburg.

runs along private leased Hunter property....they post it clearly....something to think about later in the fall season.

Super easy, kid friendly hike. There is a nice picnic table at the top of the mountain...We drove in from old forge, the rd is long and winding on a paved road then it turns into a long dirt winding road full of pot holes.. the drive in from old forge took longer than the actual hike..I was told the drive into the trail head is better if you come from Lowville, if I do this one again I would attempt coming from Lowville to meet the trail.

Rather easy hike, on right day without mud you can walk in flip flops, tower view always the best part of the trail. Picnic table available for lunch, however no views until you climb tower. Still better day than staying home, could be warm up for next hike as this took 1 hour round trip with staying at tower for 20 minutes Drive on dirt road was needed more navigating than the trail

Very quick hike- 40 min of hiking + a few minutes to climb the firetower. Took longer to get to the trailhead than to do the hike. Really enjoyable and not at all difficult. Would be great for families or beginners. Outhouse at the trailhead was in very nice shape. Firetower was also in beautiful shape, as it is newly renovated. Beautiful views from the top. Completed as part of the ADK Firetower Challenge.

This is a shorter hike and a bit challenging for the inexperienced hiker. It’s a rewarding hike with a fantastic view from the top of the tower! There was a bit of mud in certain places today, 8/29/19, but overall a great afternoon hike.

A trail that has some trees roots and stones as you go up the mountain, gorgeous forest scenery all around, I believe we did this trip in 2 hrs., including the half an hour at the tour and to eat a sandwich. This was my first mountain hike I have done and it will be forever remembered as one of the best. I did this trail on a Sunday August 25, 2019.

This is an easy walk we brought our dog .it is trail10 off of big moose road for our snowmobiler so it is an open area a few spots that got your heart rate up the trail to the pond off of this is not marked well at all as soon as you see the trail signs that tells you how many miles the trail is behind that sign we missed it and ended up at goose pond when we went back we found the trail it is a deer trail trees are down but the pond is spectacular you are out in the wilderness we so exasperated to have a moose or bear at the pond

a little muddy due to rain the previous day but manageable. no views until you get to the top of the fire tower but the views up there are amazing! We love heavily wooded trails so we enjoyed it. Good trail for the family.

Nicely marked trail. Nice, easy hike

Nice walk up and back. Re-conditioned fire tower was pretty nice with a helpful volunteer up top. The walk had some muddy areas but it was a beautiful day. Views are only available from the top of the tower but great from up there. Parking is terrible.

A portion of this is private property . Pay attention to the signs . It’s a short hike and I needed the fire tower . I liked it because it doesn’t seem overly traveled ( although I ran into about 12 people coming out )

Great trail. Nice walk through the woods. Amazing views from the fire tower. It really needs more parking.

Trail is beautifully maintained and was fairly quiet when we went. Easy hike for the kids, but not particularly engaging. No views from the summit unless you ascend the fire tower, and even then, the views aren’t as good as many of the other fire tower hikes. Quick and close enough to Bald (Rondaxe) that you can easily do both in less than 1/2 a day.

Trail was in great condition, despite storms earlier in the week. Firetower was absolutely beautiful with fantastic views. One item to note: google maps attempts to bring you here on a dirt/grass/mud road that ends well before (miles before) the trailhead- the route starting at North Road off rt 28 in Old Forge if you are starting south/west of the mountain. Take the longer route that heads north just before Eagle Bay (a bunch of roads with Moose in the title). These also are dirt for the last 8 miles, but wide and maintained. worth the trek to get there. We saw fresh Moose and bear tracks!

Hiked this today 08/02 in the early afternoon with my 10 yr old daughter. We really enjoyed it. Some horse flies buzzing around, but nothing too bad. Quick hike to the fire tower. No views from the summit, but the fire tower is in great shape and offers great panoramic views. Nice picnic table at the summit too. Great day for our 3rd mountain towards our fire tower challenge!

Beautiful!
