Went to Stillwater Fire tower for the Adirondack Fire Tower Challenge (winter). The road to the tower is a snow machine trail during the winter so the last 8 miles is an interesting drive. The parking area isn't ploughed so parked on the road. The trail was packed and made for good snow shoeing. The tower was very nice. A nice short hike but probably better in summer and fall due to the road getting there.

beautiful trail, waterfall was cool, but not passable after the waterfall. trail on the northern side of the lake was a swamp. advise doing it as an out and back along the south side of the trail, turning around at the waterfall.

We hiked in from Windfall trailhead on a very windy, wintery day. It is mostly flat with a few uphill climbs but nothing terrible. Most of the hike is forest but at some random spots you get a nice pond or lake view. Pretty soggy but it had rained and snowed most of the night before.Ended at the queer lake lean-to for lunch and headed back. Took about 3.5 hours round trip.

Easy hike, short spurts of inclines. Gorgeous views especially in the fall!

Great view from the top of the fire tower.

Great kid friendly hike. It was foggy at the top but we had the pleasure of meeting one of the volunteers who gave us a great history lesson. They’ve done a great job restoring the tower. Next year is it’s 100th anniversary.

Nice easy trail to the top, well marked about an hour round trip. Great views from the tower

Took this trail in the rain during the fall. Some rocky trails to start but gets better. The first half of the trail/ loop around the lake had no look out points however the second half had several. Was a nice walk /hike through the woods took about 2 hours.

Easy relaxing hike on a nice trail.

Super easy hike. Well marked trails and doesn’t take much time to get to the summit. Views are only seen from the fire tower, though. The only tough thing is the seasonal roads to get there. Truck or an SUV works best!

Nice trail, marked well. Only real challenge is the dirt road that takes you there. SUV is more appropriate than a car!

Craig’s review excellent—nice hike-could see the wind turbines in the distance on Tug Hill plateau-mostly vast wilderness!

Nice hike around the lake, no bugs
The loons were talking to each other. Very popular for hiking and kayaking

Nice hike. Trail is in very good condition

Easy does not mean boring! Many little spurs to campsites that you can check out if vacant. Nice level trail with a few small inclines to keep it interesting. Neat things to see.. will definitely be back! Family hike with 13 and 10 y o.

Very nice hike , no real challenges just a steady incline. Trail well marked and maintained. As with all firetowers, amazing view at the top.

My fiance. My 6 year old daughter and i rode our mtn bikes around the loop. We had a blast. It had a fee sections hard enough with clinbs and descents to keep it fun for me. But there was enough easy riding for them. We had a great time and capped it off with a seim at the beach. Id highly recommend this trail!

Beautiful secluded lake and nature walk ⭐️

Hiked up to Stillwater Fire tower with 2 of my kids. A long drive in from either direction with a mix of paved and dirt roads. We took "Number Four Rd" from Lowville out to "Stillwater Rd" on the right. Then we followed "Stillwater Rd" almost to the end, but took a right onto unmarked "Big Moose Rd". (If you get to the boat launch/restaurant/store at the end of Stillwater Rd, you've gone about 1/4 mile too far.) The trailhead was down Big Moose Rd a mile or so.
This place is really out in the middle of the boondocks! One of the most remote areas for sure. The trailhead parking was very small: enough for 1 car, 1 DEC vehicle and a disabled spot. The trail is in great shape, well worn and easy to follow with blue DEC disks. There is a steady, easy ascent up with no steep sections. Volunteers have done a great job with the tower rehab and signage and the views from the cab are very nice. If possible, I would recommend combining this short hike with some camping and fishing in the area to make the most of the long drive.

This is a beautiful hike with winding wooded paths up to a restored fire tower. It is a steady incline all the way to the top but very manageable. There’s a little picnic table at the top. The dirt road to get to the trailhead was the slowest part of the trip.

Beautiful lake, bird and wildlife viewing. Have to keep a quick pace and run from the bugs!

Fun and easy trail. Bring your kids!

Hiked the trail today, took about and hour and a pint of blood the mosquitoes took. Great trail, recommended !!

Hiked 6/2 as it was my 19th fire tower hike. Very easy trail, took about 45 mins or so round trip. Fire tower was awesome and patriotic! Beautiful views from the tower. Recommend bug spray !

Beautiful trail, 0.9 mile well marked trail to the tower. Tons of mosquitoes but the view from the summit is worth it. Easiest mountain I have completed so far. Another fire tower complete!

Hiked the trail today, was nice easy hike. Falls were very nice. However it’s not a loop trail anymore, after the falls at the east end of the lake I continued NW on the trail to circle back around and ran into an impassable swamp, trail vanished. Had to backtrack the way I came. Lots of animal scat on the trail too, watch your step :)

This trail was very well maintained and the fire tower offers a great view.

Easy hike, be easy on the dirt road on the way. Hardest part of the whole thing.
