What a great first hike in the ADK’s! Some small steep spots, but nothing to be worried about. Absolutely loved the autumnal views in October!!

I did this while 5 months pregnant. It was steep at points, but doable. We completed it in about 25-30 min. Scenic at the end of the trail. Our pics didn’t do it justice. Great short after dinner or early morning hike!

Trail is overgrown and the Boy Scout structure (previously the highlight of the trail) is coming apart. The bridges are nice and the views of the creek and pond are nice. We walked this on 8/31. Saw what we believe to be scat evidence of bear activity. We were able to breeze through this in about 20 min. Moved faster after we saw the scat.

9 minutes up, 8 minutes down! I did this with four kids today, ages 7 to 11. They hiked at a brisk pace and we were at the top in no time. Very nice views at the top. Walked past one group on the way up and two groups on the way down. Kids loved it.

my least favorite part of the Chester challenge. trails are overgrown and along power lines. I felt like I was just walking along an access road between neighborhoods

great options for a short trail run! lots of options

the road in is a little hairy if you are in a low profile car. the first half of the trail is well marked, but the rest of the loop is not marked or maintained. the pond is beautiful!

Missed the turn and ended up just following the “additional trail” along the power lines wondering where we were supposed to turn. Not my favorite while completing the Chester Challenge. It’s only saving grace was the nice trail from the parking lot to the register. They should try to base the rest of the trails off of that one.

Lots of trail options. Only did cougar hill trail though. Fairly maintained. Short quick view of Gore at the top.

Please be aware that the road in is not well maintained and if you decide to take the unmaintained trail around the rest of Palmer Pond it is also not well marked. The views were amazing and it was really cool how secluded you are from everything else. Completed this as a trail run/hike when it wasn’t possible to run. Made me use my navigation skills a bit on the drive in and on the trail.

Short easy hike with nice views of loon lake and Gore. Great spot to watch the sunset!

Short easy after dinner hike while carrying a bottle of wine for the top. Nothing like watching the sunset with a glass of wine and good company. The views of loon lake were great. We plan on coming back up to try and catch the sunset again later this week.

This is a short little hike that's well marked and has nice views at the end. We watched the sunset from up top and it was perfect!

Great short hike with a beautiful view. Perfect for kids.

This was a quick hike up the mountain. After a short steep climb, we came to the top and enjoyed the views.

Have to agree with another poster, the walk along the powerlines was not the nicest part of the walk. We were targets for the deerflys. A nice walk in a place I didn't know existed. i did a few geocaches while we walked.

Was doing the Cougar Hill trail to complete our Chester Challenge hikes. We didn't see the trail entrance immediately behind the sign-in box, so we added a little walk by going off to the right. After a short walk, we were back on track. A nice wooded walk and the breeze felt good to cool us down.

Trail markings were very confusing due to the logging activities. Just when I thought I was back on trail, the map showed us off of it.

It was an overcast day at the lake, so we decided to take a walk around Palmer Pond. It was peaceful and quiet. I did a couple of geocaches during my walk. Nice easy walk.

Great little Hike, went with 2 young kids and they did the whole thing, Great views for a short hike

Extremely confusing. Between the marked ski trails, snow shoe trails, and hiking trails we got turned around a lot. If it wasn’t for this app and having cell reception we would still be out there.

Half the hike was pretty along the creek. The other half not so much along the power lines. Nice short hike though

Hiked this yesterday with my DH and BIL. A quick hike even though I am five months pregnant to a nice view for minimal effort! A few short steep sections but nothing overly strenuous - Made it up and down in less than an hour. This is a nice wooded hike to do if you're looking for something short and sweet...also great to add to your Chester Challenge checklist! ;-)

One of my favorite, short hikes in the Adirondacks and for the Chester Challenge! Celebrated National Trails Day by hiking this today with family for my third time (twice during the warm months and once snowshoeing this past Winter). Not strenuous with serene views along the way. Great for families with small children and older relatives! :-)
