Hiked this with my niece, her husband, and their two kids, aged 8 and 7 years old. The trail is short, but steadily steep to the summit of Meade Mountain. Maybe too steep for younger children and/or those not in decent physical shape. There are three viewpoints, each with approximately a 180-degree field of view. Meade affords views to the northwest to include Hadley, Crane, and Gore mountains. The main Beckman viewpoint looks towards Loon Lake, and the secondary Beckman viewpoint looks towards the northeast and features views of Schroon Lake and Pharaoh Mountain. As of this date, there is a resident grouse on the summit of Meade Mountain. S/he is not shy and will follow you as you walk around the summit area. This hike is part of the Chester Challenge: https://www.townofchesterny.org/chester-challenge.html

Started at the 17m entrance across the road from the parking lot. There's an initial climb, but nothing too intense. It transitioned from gravel to blacktop, so it's pretty easy riding. I noticed trails that offshoot from the main path and I ventured off on one that was fun to ride, but ended running into a tall grass open field. Lots of thorny plants too so gloves were helpful, pants would have been nice too. Got back onto the main path and followed to the end at Laroe Rd. On the way back found a trail that went right, up the hill (had to push it) and eventually up to the top. There was a wide path through grass and woods that takes you under the power lines. I turned around and headed back which was all downhill and lots of fun. Followed a different trail that cut across and eventually popped out on the main path. Definitely recommend making the climb up that trail, if you're looking for something more challenging and fun. On a Sunday I did encounter 4 or 5 others, some with dogs, and there was a group of 4 on bikes.

Great little Hike, went with 2 young kids and they did the whole thing, Great views for a short hike

Hiked this yesterday with my DH and BIL. A quick hike even though I am five months pregnant to a nice view for minimal effort! A few short steep sections but nothing overly strenuous - Made it up and down in less than an hour. This is a nice wooded hike to do if you're looking for something short and sweet...also great to add to your Chester Challenge checklist! ;-)

Beautiful weather, very short hike, with great views.

It was ok but not much to see in mid April

An easy hike with only a quick view of Gore Mountain. We hiked the Cougar Hill trail that had a little steep section.

This was a very quick with views of Gore Mountain and Loon Lake. It’s an easy hike that has decent views.

This was nice hike that had a steep section where you needed microspikes to get up the trail. There was a nice view of Gore from Meade Mountain summit. The trail was a mix of rotten snow, mud, and ice.

Arrived ready for a nice fall hike and the trail and parking lot were closed. Bummer! Went to Severance Mountain instead, 10-15 minutes away which was pretty equivalent in distance and difficulty.

Great views, easy hike

Pretty cool little hike up Stewart. A great payoff for very little work. You really don't even have time to break a sweat. We did this in order to complete the Chester Challenge and also, as suggested to see the sunset. Indeed it was a great place to see the sunset over Loon Lake and was very quick and simple to get back out. Trail well marked and only took 10-15 minutes to get back to trail head. Mid July, very buggy. Dry trail.

Did it to complete Chester Challenge. Took twice as long because if the weird confusing trail systems and maps randomly tacked to the trees.

Great views, especially given the amount of time it took to reach the summit (~15 minutes).

I'm trying to get the Chester Challenge finished and this trail was easy considering my bum knees, but I push through. I did the Eagle and Cougar trails. Nice, peaceful hike.

This is a very short trail but has great views! Perfect to do with Kipp Mountain right down the road and some of the other Chester Challenge mountains for a full day of hiking. I brought my dog and they were nice short walks for him.

I recorded the Cougar Hill loop, but I also walked on about 1/2 of the nature trail. Easy hike around the loop, trail is clearly marked. The mosquitoes were out, there is a lot of streams and water. Seems like a trail I'd like to come back to in the winter and try cross country skiing.

I knocked off a star because I almost got run over by a dirt bike, but this is a terrific place for a walk with kids or a nice trail run. Mostly flat with lots rolling hills and meadows, or you can walk along the flat dirt road with a sturdy jogging stroller.
