Mid-Aug: A lot wrong with this description but still a great hike. Waterfall is small but worth seeing. From the well marked parking and trail signs the Falls are about 1.1 miles in. Great family walk/hike to this point. After this, the trail gets a little and then a lot steeper. You do have to cross 2 brooks to get the full 3 miles in. Really found nothing at the top, couldn’t see passed the trees. Lots of pretty fungi!

Decent hike. Easy, level terrain mostly, except the last half mile or so which was super steep. Wish there was a view at the top!

It’s a nice trail. Not very long and quite easy except at the end. I liked the place, it’s clean and well kept. I recommend it.

We found the 737 marker without a problem. Unfortunately, it was all posted private property so we did not get to hike the trail.

It's not easy as indicated, very steep in spots, and very long gradual ups, for most of the rest. nice for sure, just a warning.

Nice trail. I hiked it last weekend in the rain.

A very nice trail. Well marked and relativity easy for a family hike A real nice mixture of pine, birch, beech and maple trees. The trail follows the stream the entire hike and offers lots of access to nice views of the water. Above average hike.

The directions on this hike are very inaccurate. The address listed for the start of the hike on Sloan Road is for the Farm Field Reservation, and it's a network of flat trails around the farm. We asked a local, and located the parking lot for the Phelps Trail on Oblong Rd, between Sloan Rd and Rt 43. It's 1.5 miles up to the Taconic Crest Trail, then a right 2 miles to Berlin Mt. We only reached the TCT, having wasted lots of time finding the trailhead. Very steep hike, but loved the stone fences along the way.

I found this trail a little confusing. When you get to where the GPS takes you, there is no where to park except a little patch of pavement that is on the side of the road that has private property signs up (and the road kind of feels like someone's driveway) . The beginning of the trail is marked, with a DEC sign in book. The problem is that the trail runs alongside private property, and after going a little more than 2 miles in, the DEC trail markers stopped and different ones picked up, so we really weren't sure if we were allowed to go any further. Other than our confusion it was a nice hike (we never made it up to the falls, but followed the creek up which was nice).

A fine, well marked trail with pretty waterfalls.

Terribly marked, feels like you're on private property, hard to find, dog that lives at the house next to the trailer was adorable trying to bark us away. We just put our hands up and looked terrified to make him feel strong. Pretty little pools of water though.

posted private property. can still see yellow trail markers but rigjt above marked no tresspassing..

There is a much better trail map on the Capital District Wildlife Management Area's Web site: http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/capdistrictmap.pdf

The trail offers no view, but there are a lot of great rock features, lots of birds to listen to, and variety in the hike (including a few tricky spots and lots of fallen leaves and the like, but nothing unmanageable). The trail is very well marked.

A very nice gradual ascent to the Taconic crest Trail with a nice swimming hole about a mile from the trailhead just a warning there was a ground hornet nest right on the trail. Ouch. Stung 10 times

I got to say this was a fun moderate trail. It start off with it changing elevation up and down. Once you get around 2.4 miles it starts to get steep and the ascent truly begins. Me and my brother did this and we had to stop a few things to catch our breath. Overall it was a challenge for us and it could be rated as hard. There was a nice small waterfall that we got to see but nothing at the end but a branch off to two other trails.

Posted on both sides of road. There isn't even a trailhead anywhere near the location market this app takes you to

Really enjoyed this hike. First mile is somewhat of a steep hike.... then mostly levels out. Very well marked, heavily wooded. Nice view at the top. Never saw another person on route. Bring sufficient water and gear. I will definitely return.

Nice day out. Hike was very cool as most of it is in the shade. That being said it was very buggy and those who did not wear bug repellent had a hard time. The trail was clearly marked and easily passable. Parking is limited I would say 3 car max or 2 larger vehicles. It's just a small pull off on the road right across from the trail . The waterfall was decent and was easily spotted from the trail. It had rained in the morning so the trail was covered with salamanders .

Easy hike with a a very short steep incline until you meet Taconic trail. I passed the trail at first, not any big signs to tell you where trail starts but across from trail there is a spot to park maybe 2-3 cars on dirt road. Two places to go down to stream and see water. But that's about it. No viewpoint at top.

I took my wife to this trail, also called the Taconic Crest Trail. There is a small parking lot part way up on the left on Mattison Hollow Rd. The trail is well groomed by DEC and not very difficult. Wife was annoyed by some insects but loved the waterfall. There was also a lot of white rock - quartz?, used for rock walls.

Made it 1.5 miles past the last waterfall till we seen 2 Cubs immediately turned around about a mile later seen the mom on our way back standing on a ridges looking down at us. So close to the crest. Did see Fresh scat on the trail- real fresh. Other then that good hike.

nice easy hike, very little traffic, very limited parking.

I loved this trail, it was a steady uphill walk and the last stretch to where it Mets the taconic ridge trail was quite challenging and steep. I did it in late November with my dog and he loved it too, can't wait to go back in the summer...

Was a very nice trail through the forest. Following a brook that we crossed a few times. Very quiet and peaceful. The last half mile was quite steep and there is no view to be had at the summit this time of year. A turnaround at the state line would make for an easy afternoon walk.

This was one of the most beautiful hikes I have ever been on. The environment was so lovely. The sights and the sounds put me in such a good mood. :) Would love to go back and explore more!

great hike views on clear day are worth it.. wind turbines and grey lock in the distance, bring water, this is a semi, tough hike

My boyfriend and I did this trail two days in a row, we loved it so much! The trail is well maintained and extended very far beyond the swimming holes, which we really enjoyed. The first day we were there we stayed on the DEC trail, as well as the Taconic Crest Trail. The second day we walked up to the swimming holes, which are to the left of the DEC Trail sign, and hiked back to the start of the Mattison Hollow Trail through Kronk Brook (the brook that runs along the trail).

We enjoyed this trail on a humid July afternoon up to the TCT intersection and then explored some of the TCT as well. The trail was in pretty good shape with a few offshoots that we explored that were a bit overgrown. Appears to be a camping spot near the intersection as well.

VERY HARD HIKE!!!!!!!! Was not expecting it to be as strenuous as it was....there is a grave stone on the very top and remnants of where there was once a fire tower....if you are in good shape bring plenty of water and snacks....it's all uphill from there!
