It was fairly easy trail a lot of bugs in your face if you don’t mind the bugs it’s a good hike

I love doing this hike backwards! Views are great! Went on a Saturday, pretty crowded get there early. Def follow the map, a lot of trails cut in and out.

Parking for the trailhead was closed, so we parked near Bear Mountain Inn (the main parking was full by the time we got there at around 10:45am on a Saturday, but they directed us to park in a field a litter further). We took a trail that led from above the Inn to Seven Lakes Drive, then walked along the closed road to the trailhead. We didn't see anyone for the first third of the hike, which was a welcome change from trying to social distance in NYC. Nice views along the trail, with some rock scrambling in sections. Had a nice moment when my boyfriend realized he had hiked this trail as a NJ boy scout. Had a thrilling moment when I came within a foot of stepping on a large rattlesnake at the beginning of Doodletown. Overall, a nice (mostly) moderate hike around 8 miles.

Nice trail. Lots of birds. Not too busy. Well marked. We went counter clockwise. partial shade most of the time but I don't think all of the trees have leafed out yet. it rained 3 days ago and there was still some mud. Signs said the parking lot was full, that was around 11, but we found a spot.

Extremely rocky , poorly Marked for some time in the middle of the7.5 mile loop , the AllTrails map was very helpful as we got slightly off trail a few times but were able to regain our bearings fairly quickly . Bald mountain and the area near the timp offered great views and a place to rest but we’re buggy . I would personally suggest doing this counter clockwise because the clockwise way is covered entirely with rocks and has almost all the incline of the entire trail in 3.5 miles where as the Ccw way has a paved trail for a while where you can warm up . I saw many families and people unprepared for this hike trying to go up the steep rocky start and turning away in frustration. Overall I’d say moderate If you have hiking experience but hard if your new to hiking

Lovely trail, not too crowded

Nice trail. Got there before 9 and easily found parking. It got PACKED after. If you go clockwise the viewpoints are all in the first half, and you have a little uphill to get to the 340m summit. Second half a lot more flat, with about the last 1/3 walking on pavement.

Great hike but too crowded for my taste.

Seven Lakes Drive was closed again this weekend (5/17/20), so we parked 2.5 miles away at the parking lot next to Bear Mtn Inn and hiked up along the edge of Seven Lakes Drive to get to the start of the loop. With the extra 5 miles of walking, it took us 3.5 hours in total. Great hike with beautiful views. I recommend going DOWN the 1777 trail, rather than starting that way around the loop.

Great hike. Definitely recommend going up clockwise. Second half of the hike is predominantly on a paved path down.

Great hike today. We went counterclockwise. A bit of elevation on the front. Levels out. Appreciated how the sites change (pine forest, swamp, rock hops over brooks and lake views to end it up). A bit buggy today with flies. Getting so green though as spring has sprung!
