Best trails in Albany, New York

An easy to use paved trail that is perfect for biking, walking, and jogging along a 36 mile stretch of bike path. Lots of spaces to have a picnic, bird watch, and to view wildlife also. The hardest part of the trail is there are some large hills where you may have to get off your bike and walk it down. The route crosses the road in multiple areas. Accessibility: The trail surface is paved and typically between four and eight feet wide. The Fox Preserve is 70 acres of protected land in Colonie. This 70-acre property was donated to the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy. The Fox Preserve’s trail system winds through diverse habitats. The trail passes Shaker Creek. Old oak trees provide habitat for migratory birds like the Baltimore oriole, and open fields create ideal nesting areas for eastern bluebirds, the state bird of New York.Show more

This 415-acre preserve is located in New Scotland and Berne, within Albany County, NY. Crossing several small streams and winding through a variety of woodland habitats, the 2.5 mile long orange-marked trail at Hannacroix Ravine Preserve has a few steep climbs. There are some 100-year-old hemlocks along the creek. Other trees, most common in the area west of the creek, include beech, yellow birch, basswood, red oak, sugar maple and red pine. In the spring, visitors often find a brilliant display of wildflowers, including columbine, hepatica, Dutchman’s breeches and bloodroot.Show more

The trail is about 90% boardwalk; easy to walk/run on and/or bring wheelchairs/strollers. All ages area able to walk here. Beautiful in the fall with leaf colors. Accessibility: This asphalt and wooden boardwalk trail is estimated to typically be at least 3 feet wide. AllTrails users have noted that some boards may be broken/missing and that passing is difficult because of the narrowness of the trail. There may not be pullout areas to pass safely. The slope is estimated to be flat to gentle and range from -3% (downhill) to 3% (uphill) grade. There are edge barriers and handrails along some portions of this trail.
