Pretty good, short hike with the kids and dog. It’s a very easy trail and the slot canyon at the end is definitely worth it. Heck, if nothing else, just the drive out to the trail is amazing and the monastery is definitely worth a visit. We were a bit confused, trying to finding the trail head, as it’s not clearly marked, but basically, drive to the end of the forest road and park at the monastery overflow parking, then hike back up the forest road in the opposite direction you drove in from. There is a small white sign saying the trail is closed at the trail head.

$5 park entry fee. No shade, some of the worst views of the Chama area. Cumbres Pass area in the Rio Grande Ntl Forest is much more indicative of the beauty and charm of Chama. Chama is one of the most beautiful places in the whole world and this trail does no justice. Sadly disappointed. Not dog friendly due to lack of shade and no streams or places for them to get water

Hiked down from 87A trail head to fish Beaver Creek and Diablo, the best fishing for me. Although it's 30-45 min down, it's at least an hour back up with waders and fishing boots, rods and fishing pack. Plenty of water should be brought down there and food.

you have to pay a park fee to get to the trail. I don't mind paying $5, but I didn't bring any cash. a head's up would be nice.

Beautiful views throughout. Loved the difference of terrain. Only went from El Vado to Heron, but would love to do it again and do the out and back route.

This is a beautiful little hike I took from the monastery. The highlight is once it starts following the creek bed. There were a couple of tricky parts getting past some pooled water and up some rocks. It’s doable, but be careful!

Not a great place to visit. Much better places in New Mexico to go. Would not recommend.

A sign at the trailhead says the trail is closed; I hiked it anyway as it is a 30 minute drive from the highway. Nice and easy hike.
