Nice shady hike with plenty of tree cover. In terms of scenery, its nothing epic as the trees block the views most of the way but this is a great escape on a hot day. We barely saw anyone so it was very peaceful and our dogs had a blast running off leash.

West side ascent rocky but good work out. East side descent beautiful with a stretch of trail covered with pine needles. Lots of fallen trees. Path well marked and maintained.

Lollipop loop which is shaded throughout and therefore a good choice for summer hiking. Well maintained as of this date. Ascent and descent make it a good workout despite its relatively short length.

Good hike through the pine forest. This route combines a couple different trails so be mindful of the intersections. Moderate is accurate, the trail itself can be narrow at times and the only annoying thing is the ice and small rocks to navigate on, but this is a problem only for winter months.

About 2/3rds through there is a split off to climb Cathey peak where there is a great view at 9700ft looking down that valley, it adds about .5 miles to the hike and worth it.

Great hike partial views of tularosa valley and white sands. Return loop from Cathy overlook is special

This was a great hike. Mostly tree coved with a beautiful meadow shortly before the loop begins.

Lots of opportunity for wildlife and forest sounds.

A few areas of large loose rock on the accents/descents which I don't care to hike on but with the slope angle it is understandable why that material is there.
