My Wife and I hiked this trail about 7 days ago and really enjoyed the views. Great inclines and plenty of locations to stop and see the vastness of this part of New Mexico. It was about 2 hours to the peak and what a clear day to see all around the area with more than 10 miles visibility.

The drive up to the visitor's center is more than 30+ miles of winding road. The land is beautiful and lighly travelled. Great small hike into see ancient dwellings. The dwellings themselves are served by the National Park Service, and are accessible to a degree that is not common for similar Mogillon and Anasazi dwellings.
It is clear there have been major budget cuts. There is no longer a live tour guide, which has been replaced by an "informational" video. The trails from the Visitors center up onto the Gila river are overgrown and heavily washed away. They have not been cleared are tended in what looks like at least two seasons. So if you are planning on walking up to see the dwellings ,this is a good small hike. if you are planning on using the Visitors center to walk up the river, be forwarded the river is high and the trials are not main intend. This is hiking for experienced folks.

This one is tough. Climbing and descents. Also some trail obstructions in the middle segment that requires scrambling. Wear long pants, be fit and have plenty of water. I did it in two days since I just had one vehicle. I hiked from Sheep Corral up about 5.5 miles and then back, and the following day I hiked from NM15 up to the point I left off. Did I say have plenty of water! Views are stunning along the ridge. I clocked the highest elevation at about 8600 ft. According to my fitbit tracker the total distance from point to point is about 9.5 miles, for a total round trip of about 19 miles. This does not match the distance shown on the trail signs. I'd be curious to know what mileage others come up with.

Awesome trail. High elevation - up to almost 9000' - and a number of ups and downs, but nothing too strenuous provided you are physically fit. There are some burn areas but otherwise it's a lovely wooded area with stunning views.

Nice hike. Saw only 2 other people all day. Beautiful scenery. Peaceful.

Beautiful hike with perfect weather. Secluded on a Saturday.

This was a listed trail that has trail marker saying "public access through private property". This is not true as a jerk of a man said get off his property. Jim Aldel is his name.

Ok unless you've hiked slots in Utah!

Lovely hike! Depending which direction you go off of the main road, the ecosystem is very different. Spectacular rock formations and overlook when you go to the north.

Nice walk to some very interesting dwellings.

Went years ago, great place, but definitely off the beaten path
