Easy to moderate trail and it’d be great for trail running. Temp was low 50’s, sunny no wind and wound up shedding windbreaker. Great views of WNMU campus and if you go down the backside nice views of farming and ranching homes. We maintained an easy pace and took an hour and was about 2 miles. Nice hike to bring along your best friend too! Enjoy!

did this recently although turned around at 3m in cuz baby wasn't gonna tolerate. took the dog and he really enjoyed the snow! we were just in boots and got to the base of the twin sisters area

When they say "hike a portion" they really mean "a portion."
The view from signal peak lookout is breathtaking, however to get there you're actually hiking an access road, which is really challenging because of the incline through a giant section of burned forest.
I'm a junkie for mileage so I enjoyed it, very challenging from the bottom up, even if it is only an access road. 1.5 liters of water was perfect.

Gorgeous hiking but terrible markers! Come on, put up a couple trail signs or at least arrows indicating which trail is which.

I don’t know why the description says it is near Pinos Altos. It is actually within the city limits of Silver City. Trailheads are off city streets. This is a lovely trail system with fabulous views. You can do a thirty minute hike or a two hour hike depending on how you loop it. Lots of mining remnants to puzzle over. You won’t get lost because it is completely surrounded by streets and roads - just get high and you can figure out where you are. This is not a great place to hike in the heat of summer because there is minimal shade but otherwise anytime will do. Have a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and water. Highly recommend!

Good choice for a day in the 80's. Hiked 2 miles up and 2 miles back from the pull off on NM 15. Bushwackers inc. Marilyn, Janet and Ralph. Saw a lizard, juvenile and mature horned toad, sumac, poison ivy and watercress, which I was cautioned not eat due to possible Beaver Fever.

Would be a 5 but you will need a high profile vehicle, also a longer drive down dirt roads. No one there on Labor Day. VERY nice

I couldn't find the trail, it looked like all private property.

Nice short trail in arroyo there is water but no hot springs

There is no trail in lower element of the loop in the canyon. It is a very picturesque box-slot for much of the way. However even a small storm upstream will be fatal if you are caught there. Be very careful attempting this part of the trail.

My Wife and I hiked this trail about 7 days ago and really enjoyed the views. Great inclines and plenty of locations to stop and see the vastness of this part of New Mexico. It was about 2 hours to the peak and what a clear day to see all around the area with more than 10 miles visibility.

This one is tough. Climbing and descents. Also some trail obstructions in the middle segment that requires scrambling. Wear long pants, be fit and have plenty of water. I did it in two days since I just had one vehicle. I hiked from Sheep Corral up about 5.5 miles and then back, and the following day I hiked from NM15 up to the point I left off. Did I say have plenty of water! Views are stunning along the ridge. I clocked the highest elevation at about 8600 ft. According to my fitbit tracker the total distance from point to point is about 9.5 miles, for a total round trip of about 19 miles. This does not match the distance shown on the trail signs. I'd be curious to know what mileage others come up with.

Awesome trail. High elevation - up to almost 9000' - and a number of ups and downs, but nothing too strenuous provided you are physically fit. There are some burn areas but otherwise it's a lovely wooded area with stunning views.

Nice hike. Saw only 2 other people all day. Beautiful scenery. Peaceful.

Beautiful hike with perfect weather. Secluded on a Saturday.

This was a listed trail that has trail marker saying "public access through private property". This is not true as a jerk of a man said get off his property. Jim Aldel is his name.

Ok unless you've hiked slots in Utah!

Lovely hike! Depending which direction you go off of the main road, the ecosystem is very different. Spectacular rock formations and overlook when you go to the north.
