on Tecolote Trail

Very easy and short trail. Nice views at the top. It did get a little crowded at around 9.

Trail is closed until further notice as of July 8th, 2018.

off road driving

Dirt/gravel road, a little rough in spots but not bad even if you don’t have a 4X4. Also, the last part of the trail is on private land & gated off. You can’t actually drive to it. This probably should not be listed as an off-road trail since the only off-road part is not accessible. Nice views of both the Sandia Mountains & the area east of there.

I have hiked this trail twice with my daughter who is eight and she loved it. Definitely be aware of your kiddos once you get to the cabin. Sheer cliff drops around, but fantastic views. Fun family hike and a good way to spend half a day with the drive up the mountain.

Easy family friendly hike. Saw 2 toddlers make it to the top, picking wild flowers all the way! If they can do it, you can! Weather was perfect today, 66 degrees at the top with slight breeze. Bring a picnic lunch. The view from the top is amazing! Ask for map and directions at the Crest House gift shop. Pretty much all trails will lead to the Kiwanis Cabin, just different views. One route takes you through the forest with lots of shade while the other takes your along the cliff. Perfect short hike. Took us about 1.5 hours and stopped to take plenty of pictures.

With current construction it was hard to find trail head. Check with tram lodge for a better map. Nice hike though. Windy.

Lovely trail. Not too busy. Amazing views especially from the summit. Pretty wildflowers and cool temperatures.

Always enjoy this trail Fall/Winter times when temps usually don't rise above mid-50s. Plenty of bird activity as sun was setting.

easy hike with some amazing views!

Came to the top of mountain to see the view without knowing of this trail’s existence. Was very pleasantly surprised upon finding the trail and the views it afforded. Would certainly recommend to others.

Visiting from PHX only had a couple hours to sneak in a hike. Pretty solid trail and a good climb I recorded 1591 AEG with all but 20 feet of it coming on the hike up to where the trail joins Embudo at the ridge. Wish I had more time would have loved to continue up to South Sandia Peak as the ridgeline trail did not offer much in terms of views. There were a couple really cool boulder outcrops below the ridge that provide great viewpoints back down the trail and valley you hike up through. Lots of scat on trail possibly small blackbear, not a scat expert, but was definitely not K9 or feline

Easy trail to follow, good burn, and spectacular views. Definitely will do again!

See recording from today. The only parts recorded are an easier way to access Oso Ridge from Embudito (it’s just the second left after the Embudito trail marker), a direct way to South Peak from the top/end of the Oso Ridge trail, and the path back through Embudito Canyon off of Embudito trail (which cuts at least half a mile off the trip and of course is another great way up).

Enjoyed the trail, great views. Didn’t find the springs...

Nice trail, but absolutely no trail markers or signage. Lots of forks. Take your GPS.

the stairs at the switchback get slippery. beware.

Great views

great for running, despite the rocks it's doable.

Used this trail to access South Sandia Peak and the crest trail. Decent elevation gain but overall moderate hike. Great views at the top of both side of the mountain. Trail easy to follow and well marked.

South facing trail that has a good incline. Definitely want to hike during the cooler months. Nice views at the top of trail.

Beautiful views. Great place to enjoy the sunset!

great hike and some good exercise accompanied with ace views. definitely a popular trail so don't come here for solitude but in all ways a nice way to spend two hours outdoors.

and for those so inclined the trail connects to others if you wanna keep trekking....

This is such a fun hike. The views are breathtaking and the trails are clearly labeled. I cannot wait to go back and expand more on the hike!

I liked this trail. It was a pretty simple trail starting out, but got really sunny, not much shade. Great views once you got higher. The trail got pretty steep once you got a mile and half in, so the steepness might not be everyone's cup of tea. Overall, it was enjoyable, and I'd definitely go again.

This trail is an excellent trail which begins from the same trail head as the Sandia Cave Trail, just take the trail that leads up the mountain on the right after leaving the parking lot.
The easy to follow trail is mostly shady and not very rocky. I did not go all the way to the end because I had limited time but next time I will. The views of the canyon are spectacular!

Pretty easy hike for beginners (me). The smells and sights were lovely and there wasn't much traffic. There's also a cave close to the start which is fascinating. And I was proposed to during this hike, so that just made the whole thing wonderful.

Was a nice easy to moderate hike. I would rate it moderate because the trail is pretty rocky in some areas and requires some dexterity. Hiking boots definitely are a plus.

The turn off to the parking area isn't marked so be on the lookout for it. There are also no picnic tables, so if you want to relax and hang out a bit, bring chairs. Finally, the bathrooms were locked and not available.

Was an enjoyable hike with Husband, 9 yr old daughter, and myself.

Got a little lost on the way up, but that's just from the bad signal with my gps! Like a few others I took Oso Ridge up then followed south crest trail to take embudito trail down. Oso Ridge is pretty steep at some parts so Embudito was a little easier to come down! Ended up at 11.5 miles total, the views at the top are absolutely worth it (:

Loved it!! A nice easy trail for my kids to do, and not so long that they couldn't finish it. There were definitely a lot of rocks along the trail. It was beautiful scenery in the forest with trees, wildflowers, and even a cave along the trail close to the start of it! I would definitely do this hike again. It took us a little over an hour to do the entire hike (although I wanted to go faster but was going the pace of my son).

One little note - the parking area was kind of rough and there were no signs to indicate that it was a trailhead there. We found a sign just past the outhouse (that was locked) to indicate the trail.
