There is a couple trees down about a mile and half in that hikers can get through but you’ll need a saw to cut through a small downed tree to make it past that point otherwise.

When taking Piedra Lisa, PLEASE NOTE THE LEFT TURN BEFORE THE WATER TANK. If you miss this left, the trail will take you to a forbidding, large rock wall. Some hikers have climbed the wall and found the actual trail above it, but best to take the left and follow the trail up. Piedra Lisa is rather steep and a bit loose at the beginning. The trail becomes easier and is one of the prettiest in the Placitas Area. The right turn at Del Agua is well marked and easy to find. Del Agua is a bit of an obstacle course with a couple of fallen trees to navigate, boulder / rocky areas to crawl over and down, brush to push through, and a small stream that is at times the actual trail. The trail is easy to lose in several areas and I was grateful for my Garmin. Others commented on bugs, and yes there are many. I made the loop in about 3 hours and saw only 1 group of hikers along the way.

I have lived in Placitas for over 15 years and never ran trails out here. This trail was awesome, 95% good smooth trail and the rest rocky. Shady with beautiful views.

This loop is full of surprises. We did it early in the morning to avoid heat on the way out.

2.3miles before getting to parking is NOT maintained. Low profile car be careful. Easy hike up. Cell service is spotty.

Awesome hike. We encountered some deep patches of snow and a couple of blown down trees about two miles from the top. We stopped a half a mile from the end at a great look out and then turned around and went back. Amazing views, cute flowers, cute lizards, easy to follow trail until you get to the snow, but even then it’s not hard to find.

Short and dusty. But neat! The road is not paved but any car will make it fine driving slow. Don’t let the road deter you from checking out this little spot. And Don’t forget your headlamp!

Still very snow covered, sunk to my knee in a few spots. A little muddy when you pass the meet point of the 10k Trail. Enjoyable otherwise. Didn’t do the entire trail, went about 3 miles, had lunch and turned back. Definitely less snow the further north we went (drop in elevation)

Good "workout" hike. Signs and parking at the trailhead. The trail is very rugged, uneven and rocky. Warning. I saw Bear scat just under a mile in and just before the turn around point.

Really fun and beautiful. Rocky and loose gravel for about 2 miles out then a little right before getting back to TH. Take the road 445 up to TH, signage will say not to but FR 445 is accessible up to TH. Little wet with runoff on Del Aqua, but it's in the name. For most part trail was noticeable, but there was 2/3 that we had to stop to look. Plenty of water needed, and especially if your dog comes with. Ran into two groups of people the whole time on trail, so not crowded at all!

Quite a few twists and turns that look like pathways, so be sure to download the map ahead of time and check in every now and then. A gorgeous view up at top! Worth some of the pretty steep moments along the way.

The views are amazing and the trail is lightly trafficked on the North side. We hiked up and then went down South Piedra Lisa making it about a 6 mile hike. We got a ride back to our car in Placitas.

This was a beautiful trail some fun boulder scrambling. Nice shade

A little challenging on the way out with the rocky uphill, but great views! Nice shady spot for a break where the Del Agua trail splits off. The Del Agua trail was really fun as you're hiking down the wash. Some water in areas, climbing on/between big rocks, narrow trail between vegetation, but pretty easy to navigate. My husband said it was like an Escape Room for hiking. Great hike!

Its a little too early in the season so there was a lot of snow but the views were great and the hike is extremely challenging. The elevation gain is very intense. Keep your eyes open for stacked stones which mark the trail, otherwise it is quite easy to get off trail, which is really the only downside I have to this hike.
