it's a good workout if you take the steep sandhill part of the trail!

This a short hike. The views of the valley are amazing. There are several other options of trail hiking around the Hill. Perfect for fall, winter, and spring hikes. However I am desert rat, i go anytime of the year.

grate especially because your only a few minutes from your house . when you are in the bowl you don't fill like your so close to town. grate view in all directions and I like the way you have sand, hard ground ,hills, and more than one trail to chose from.

Easy to find, nice getaway that is close to town. Several trail options

The hike up to the top offers a variety of views over Valencia county. The hike also has a unique challenge due to the trail being extremely sandy in places. Shade is limited so bring plenty of water and sun screen. At the top you can catch a 360 degree view of the valley and distant mountains.

The trails are a bit too much soft sand. I felt like I was sloggy along a sandy beach. I prefer a hardpack trail ... However, the NM desert scenery was beautiful. December is a good time of year to hike these trails.

love this place! I used to come here as a kid with friends and family! now I bring my kids and explore every year! a must visit for family, friends, or solo.

Great trail. I actually took a side trail and went over to the “Overlook”. Very scenic.

Been hiking here since I was a kid. Finally made it all the way to the top and explored the caves. They are worth the hike. They finally opened up the camp grounds do you can drive right to the trail head. Great place, my kids 9 and 10 made all the way to the top with us.

my favorite canyon!!

Thursday, March 16, 2017

Secluded hike. Great for practicing way-finding, as the trail can be difficult to follow on the way up due to the large number of fell trees in the canyon- but, there's no risk of getting lost on this hike. Follow the trail the best you can, it'll cross the stream many times, leading you to the back wall of the canyon. The waterfall was only a trickle when I went in mid-march. The back left wall of the canyon is a series of slabby granite boulders that you can climb up to get a better view if you're feeling adventurous. My dog wouldn't follow me up past a certain point, as it does get pretty steep. Overall super enjoyable.
