This is a good out-and-back trail with a nice rewarding lookout about halfway up. The views of the Caldera are beautiful and the hot springs are nice at the end of the trail. Even though it was a Sunday, it wasn’t terribly busy and the weather was fair. I stopped often for pictures, so it took me longer but it’s an approachable trail and the parking lot is a plus.

Great trail, went on a Saturday. Got there a little later than we wanted (9am) and there wasn’t too many people. We had two toddlers with us (3&4). They were able to do the whole hike but took us a little longer than we wanted of course. Steady uphill the whole way to the hot springs, lots of groups of people when we got up there around noonish. Hike back down was a little rocky due to the decline. Once down near the parking lot there was a lot of people in the river and at tables. For the best experience I would suggest getting there before 9am. Lots of fun and so beautiful!

Please pick up your trash. It seemed like there was a tissue about every 30 ft on the trail. These are more of a warm springs; 3 different pools. Pools are still closed but many people in them. Theres a path to the top of Battleship rock which was really cool and another viewpoint past the springs looking into the canyon and the view of Jemez Waterfall was nice. Scrambled to the bottom of falls and took a full bag of trash out. And its 1/4 mile to the parking lot where a big dumpster is. Really people?

Easy hike, even for ancient me. Saw a bear and an elk. It is OK to take dogs.

Easy to follow trail, beautiful views! Almost all uphill, but definitely doable. We started hiking around 9 on a Thursday and had the trail to ourselves. Didn’t pass anyone until we were almost back to the trail head.

Such a beautiful hike! All uphill to get to the reward at the end. Well worth it! Good thing it’s down hill on the way back;)

Hiked McCauley Hot Springs 05/17/20. Nice hike. The hike is a steady uphill grade. Very doable. The trail is well marked and runs along a river for a while then proceeds up to the hot springs through a lot of pine tress. The pine trees do not provide very much shade. When you reach the hot springs there is a large flat area to eat lunch or snacks. Lots of people in the hot springs having fun in the sun.

Despite the hot springs being closed, it was still a fun hike. Definitely would do it again.

Very beautiful. Lots of signs saying hot springs are closed, but some people were walking near them and putting their feet in. Beautiful hike!

Trail is closed for covid as of Monday April 27. Drove to next parking lot. Took trail 137 which connects to Macaulay trail to hot springs. Fun hike, some climbing, a few wildflowers, a couple people passed by.

We visited during Covid-19 so the hot springs were closed. But a beautiful hike either way. lots of picnic tables, grills, and shade along the river, lots of people fishing. My dogs really enjoyed it. Bad news is it's uphill the whole way, the good news is it's downhill the whole way back . Be sure to watch the signs, we got a little off track at one point, but the app brought us right back to it. Would highly recommend!

A very nice trail! We went on 4/24. NPS fees were waived, but the main road to get to the trail was closed. That added an extra 2 miles each way, but even the road was a beautiful walk. The trail is very short- if the road was open and we only did the trail, we would've planned to do another small trail in the area.

Hot Springs are closed for covid! But, still worth the hike. Gorgeous creek runs along the bottom and then a slow manageable climb up to the springs. About 20 posted signs saying pools are closed but the path is still open and will definitely return when covid ends. Tons of people on it by 1pm though.

Beautiful hike. Uneven path and had to climb over down trees but nothing too serious. I did it with my three year old and my small dog and it wasn't a problem. My kid is a powerhouse though, I'd be leary taking most kids under five.

Our new favorite trail! My husband and I took our 15 year old and 7 year old. We all agreed this was the most beautiful hike. The stream was soothing, the hike was perfect, albeit long. It took us 4 hours with plenty of stops for pics. The springs are pretty, but have a lot of algae. At the end we saw a bunch of turkey vultures, which was a perfect way to end the hike. People who have rated this low couldn’t find the springs. Download a map, if you can. If you can’t, there are signs, tree markers, and a pretty obvious trail to follow. You won’t regret this hike!

Wonderful hike with some rocky areas along with some nice easy spots. We took our kids 10, 9 and 4 and they made it there and back. Spotted a garter snake living in the top pool but it was friendly and left us alone. The views on the way up are enough reason to go!

Steep trail, but worth the trip! The pools of water at the end are clear albeit a little algea, and they're very refreshing. It's a great place to stop and relax before hiking back down. The little fishies in the water will eat the dead skin off of you too!
