Not too scenic since it's mostly in the pinyon juniper woods. Highway noise is heard along the whole trail. There are some information signs along the trail, but it would probably be better to get the guidebook from the park visitor center. Remember that you need to get the gate code from the park visitor center. I called their main phone number and got it, so you don't necessarily have to go in person.

You can not get into this trail! Some idiot put a private business and is a gated locked camp now!

Awesome views! It's a difficult hike if you're not used to the altitude.

Previous reviewer is correct. Turned away at the gate due to "too many kids" being there - direct quote from the lady at the gate. Apparently these national forest trails will be open to the public again on the 12th.

UPDATE - so here's the scoop. Trailhead access to most of the "Glorieta" trails that are listed on alltrails is actually on private property. You will be turned away from them frequently if there are baptist activities taking place, like for instance a summer camp. Figure out how to call ahead if you want to hike these trails from that trailhead just to make sure the trailhead isn't closed to the public.. Most of them are accessible from other locations by taking forest/fire roads or hiking from Santa Fe in to Glorieta. IMO these trails are nice, but not worth that level of hassle. None of them is nearly as nice as the trails in Hyde Park or at the ski basin, but they do start several thousand feet lower if altitude is a concern.

Only rating one star because we couldn't get access to any of the glorieta trails because the Lifeway camp was not allowing access to anyone outside the camp while it was going on. Seems weird that a private company was blocking access to trailheads in a public National Forest for a camp that was no doubt using these trails for private use.

This Sunday we could not access the trail head from the Glorieta Conference Center; gate closed. will have to access from trail head for trail #175 at coordinates
Latitude 35.633302429522054
Longitude -105.8587646484375
NF road 79.

The trail shown on the map (as of 6/1/2017) is the Glorieta Center Trail #272. The Glorieta Baldy Trail #175 starts on Forest Road 79, west of the mountain, crosses the large canyon at the foot of Glorietta Baldy (Apache Canyon), arrives at at the major ridge south of the summit before turning north to the intersection with Trail #272 and the summit. The fire tower is closed and the treads are missing from the entry ladder. From the ground the views are pretty limited, although there are good views out across the Galisteo Basin into the Pecos basin. A trail description with driving directions and photos can be found at newmexicomeanders.wordpress.com/2017/06/01/2017-05-28-glorieta-baldy-santa-fe-mts/.

I tried going today. The gentleman at the gate said the trail is closed until August 15th because of summer camps

Great ride.. :)

I work at the camp. We allow hikers and bikers besides the summer(except certain days). The problem with this trail is the Ghost Town itself is on private property and they have no trespassing signs up. They have decided not to allow people through, not sure why. But you can still hike up to the town and back.

Best follow directions from the Sierra Club's "Day Hikes in the Santa Fe Area" as the trailhead is actually over on FR175 and the Alltrails map is incomplete.

I hiked this as a kid. I remember it was a very difficult hike, but so worth it when I got to the top.

Loved this hike up to Glorieta Baldy. Nice trail from the conference center to the ghost town. Few things to see on the way like the old car and mine.

Nice trail! Make sure you hike starting from Glorieta Conference Center. You will pass some interesting features like an old mine, car and ghost town. The drive to baldy from Pecos is rough. Be careful!

A little tricky to navigate, but views galore and not at all strenuous. Love the rusted out old car, which still had its wooden floor boards and foundation of an old hotel along the trail. Been on this trail over 4 times before it closed due to new owners of the trail head. Havent heard if they allow hikers back.

Great trail but very steep & rocky near top. Views from ridge 1/2 way down spectacular.
