Gallup, New Mexico Map

Beautiful trail since you can see Church Rock and the Pyramid most of the way up and down. I didn’t make it all the way to top since needed to get back to a meeting (lunch time outing). Got to the fence gate where the elevation started to take off.

Do this every time I come here. Close to where we stay .a local trail .

March 15. The trail was muddy. Still some snow. It is beautiful.

Well worth the hike to the peak.

Awesome views and very cool hike

Very sandy but well kept trail. Very nice views.

It’s an easy trail with a few moderate inclines. The trail itself is wide and well marked with exercise stations along it. Most of the equipment worked. There were a few stations that could use some maintenance. The views are beautiful, even in the winter time. It’s a great family trail, especially if you have little ones who are new to hiking. My kids are pretty experienced hikers but they still loved this trail. Lots of room for them to run and explore.

The views were amazing! There trail is clearly marked. There were some areas that were a little steep, but there were cut out steps and was worth the climb.

Amazing hike, easy trails to follow with fabulous views... with that said i would say it is a moderate to difficult hike depending on how much of the trail that you complete. The first part of the trail is a steep ascent (1/4 mile equivalent to 10 flights of stairs per my Apple Watch), the next mile is fairly easy without a great deal of ascending. The back 1.75 miles is the most difficult section with a steep ascent. Overall it was a great hike and worth the time to complete.

Like the pyramid trail this is a beautiful trail built and maintained by the YCC. We did this trail and discovered a connecting trail to to the Pyramid Trail. The trail takes off from the left (west) side of the loop at the top of canyon and meets the Pyramid Trail about a third of a mile from the summit. Very nice.

Beautiful scenery. Moderate hike. There is a connecting trail to Church Rock trail which is quite nice. The connection takes off about a third of a mile from the summit and connects to Church Rock trail where the trail loops around.

Pretty hike but easy to get off fairly well marked trail. Fortunately I have a decent sense of direction and record map while hiking. This two mile trail was 3.6 miles for us. Great to hike but I would. It bike it. Loved the mountain lion at top.

The actual trail was great, well marked and fun but safe (in dry weather) paths and cutouts in to the sandstone. When you get close to the actual rock formation the trail drops off and this turns into more of a canyon scramble to get up to the formation (if you want to, it is probably intended you don't since the trail is very well marked up to a point). The route I found from where the trail dropped was going across a cambered / slanted bench to the side of a short dry fall which I found doable on the way in, but then I was very sketched out by it on the way back b/c of a few diff angles doing that way, plus tired. I had assumed once I was up closer to the structure I would find the official trail and rejoin and not have to return the way I'd came. I found allot of trails up there, but many just led to cliffs, no safe maintained nontechnical ways down that I found. It looked like there were easier approaches from the back side of the formation (private property) so that may explain the busier trails up top without an easy way to get there from this trail. Maybe I missed something, but for me this map was misleading b/c it combined a fun, way to follow official trail with a cross country spur that was a little dicey at my canyon hiking skill level.

Besides the wayfinding and climbing challenges it was allot of fun.

Once you get up to the bottom of the formation it's much, much easier to get up higher on / in it from the far backside corner.

Definitely not for beginners. A lot of steep slopes and drops so you need to watch your footing. Otherwise, it has great views.

we went on this hike in July at 11 a.m. with our 4 year old and almost two-year-old. Our four-year-old walked the whole way and I carried my two-year-old most of the way. It was easy to rain and had beautiful mountain sculptures. There is a mountain lion figure at the top of one Hill which is about 1 mile into the hike. At that mountain lion it is a great look out with nice breezes and was a perfect turning around point for us. We did a total of a 2-mile hike. I highly recommend a hat and going earlier or later in the day. There are also really neat stacked up rocks at various places along the path. There is not much shade but it was a good desert type of hike.

Done with kids of 3 and 9 and a dog. We had to carry the little one and the dog for a little distance but the rest of the hike is ok.
Beautiful, all the family enjoy it

Awesome trail.

Difficult and very little shade but beautiful

Awesome walking paths that are very well laid out and you can't get lost. The scenery is amazing you can see pyramid rock, Church Rock, the old Fort Wingate Army Depot, the outskirts of Gallup and amazing geology. Other than the uranium spill at church Rick back in the 1970s, there is a lot of other unique history.

Beautiful trail! Nice up the hill walking exercise, not hard or scary at all.

Nice trail and pretty easy to follow. I would not say the difficulty level is hard though. Pretty good signage at the park directing you to the trailhead.

Fun trail!

Beautiful trail. Many markers to tell you where to go. One word of caution though, if you have a fear of heights , there are areas on the trail that there is a shear drop off, and another area with cut out stairs going either up or down a very steep rock face (depending on which direction you do the loop.) but highly recommend!

I do not recommend bringing dogs or young children. So much broken glass everywhere!

Nice relaxing drive out enjoying the rock formations. The hike was easy, but fun being in the desert landscape. The site was dirty and the old carvings were covered with recent dates and names. Would go back.

Loved this hike! Seemed moderate vs hard, except that my lungs are adjusting to the high altitude after always living at sea level. Beautiful hike to get up close to boulders and great vistas.
