A pretty easy, flat hike. Beautiful scenery. Make sure to check the water levels though, as the lake was pretty barren when we were there, which meant finding drinking water was not easy & the flies were terrible so cooking was a little hard as well.

on San Gregorio Lake

At 9200-9400', this trail offers woodland views, a fishing lake & pleasant summer temps.

Completely enchanting, if you're ready for bears. I entered this loop at the intersection of the Lucero/Upper Clear Creek trail, having come up from the reservoir. Once entering the loop trail, the portions that crossed open meadow were difficult to distinguish, often blending with game trails, although the forest portions were still clear. The trail is very lightly traveled, and incredibly scenic. My hiking partner and I had traveled about 1.5 miles N/NE on the loop, through three meadows when we encountered a cinnamon colored black bear of impressive size. We were coming out of a forested section into the meadow the bear was crossing. My partner spotted the bear, about 150-200 feet away, and we slowly backed away in the direction we'd come from. The day before, fellow anglers at the reservoir had mentioned that the bears were plentiful and cubs were abundant. Not wanting to tempt fate, we retreated and passed on hiking this loop.

great fishing. take the float tube!

In another few weeks the mud should dry out but there are still snow patches currently. Plan to get your feet wet. Great short hike with kids or dogs.

The road was open when we went 5/18/19 and we enjoyed a easy and short hike to the lake. Water level is high and sections of the trail were covered in water when we went- nothing that would be a problem if you don't mind taking creative side paths or getting your feet a little wet. There are a couple trees that you have to maneuver over but it isn't difficult. The Lake is beautiful along with the streams and waterfalls that are in full swing at the moment. Great hike for kids and dogs.

Hike this trail in late April 2019. Significant snow pack still and very muddy. The road to the Trail head is closed and requires a 3 mile walk to get from parking area to the trail head. I’m sure it will open when the snow clears. Usually a very good hike but very muddy today and Lots of fallen trees in the path. I am sure that the forest service will clean up before Hiking season begins there. For now, bring waterproof shoes. It is unusual to see so much moisture in that area.

Don’t do it!!!! You dead end into private property. No trespassing signs. Drove from Albuquerque and about 1.5 hours of driving we had to turn around and go somewhere else.

Great hike for kids and dogs. The trail both ways is easy, nothing very steep. The scene as the trail opens to the lake is gorgeous. During our trip the area featured a group of cows both in the meadow and down by the lake, which was an extra treat for the kids.

A nice easy trail especially since it was the second we had done that day. Always good to get to see a remote lake.

This trail is short, but beautiful. It’s an easy going flat trail through the San Pedro Wilderness that leads to the lake. The dogs loved it.

Easy hike with great views. The reservoir itself is busy but if you hike past it it’s a more moderate level hike with great views of the reservoir.

4 star relative to the surrounding trails. Moderate difficulty, due to mild uphill climbs. Nice views of Cuba and mountains surrounding.

A great short hike! The trail leads you across some small arroyos and up a sandstone ridge to a high point where there are beautiful views of the Cuba Valley, Nacimiento Mountains, Cuba Mesa and nearby sandstone cliffs.

I thoroughly enjoy this trail nearly year round. There are great resting points with stone benches to enjoy the views and the view from the top of the mesa is stunning.

Great trail I ran across skimming through the 60 hikes in 60 miles book. It's very well marked by the actual path and also cairns. I was pressed for time so had to turn back after a couple miles in. If I am correct this trail may continue non stop almost to Cuba NM. I did hike a portion of this trail just south of Cuba the year before. I'm only rating at moderate because of some elevation change. I doubt it's more than a few hundred feet.
