The trail is pretty much non existent once you get to the rock face, but if you can scramble along the face you'll be rewarded with 100s of petroglyphs. Scrambling isn't an exaggeration, as the rocks are large and cover certain parts the hike completely, but you have to come back that way, you can either head down the little mountain to the fence line or up on the ridge and come down one of the horse trails. Ionly went about a mile around the rock face because the dog and I were getting hot, and then went on top of the ridge to hike back. There isn't much shade. The petroglyphs were pretty awesome though, with a few speckled here and there, then huge walls of tons images. It was really neat to see so many. A lady told me some are as old as 100 AD and some are newer from the conquistadors and pilgrims.

Super fun, well graded dirt and paved trail.

This is not a marked trail but more of an open space. There are some signs to the petroglyphs on the way up, but once top of La Bajada it's a beautiful view. You can find your way back down to the parking lot through the horse trails in the canyon.

The sights are very cool as on one side you got a nice view of the valley and town and on the other, a natural canvas with tons of stunning imagery from an unknown Native American artist. There are a lot of rocks and the trail is winding with a lot of little crevices that hide critters, so keep an eye out for the unfriendly type. The trail is not maintained but is worn down enough from years of hikers going through that its easy to stay on track. It felt authentic as if you are blazing your own path. The map is inaccurate as the top trail suddenly ends and dips down about a half mile before it says it should. Seeing the petroglyphs is a must as least once, its untold American history, and what more it comes from an ancient artist who is just trying to understand the world and his/her place in it. That or boredom either way go check it out.

I was very disappointed. The trail was not marked well at all after the first 10th of a mile! The trail did not match all trails map for 50% of the trail. At one point the map wanted me to take the cliff straight down that's how in accurate it was! Either the trail needs to be rerouted. Or it needs to be remapped!
