No people! Awesome! No rattlesnakes either but do wear pants/boots, bring plenty of water the first mile is the steepest and only challenging part really. Next time I’ll try The other trail

Great trail for living in the area. I think it could easily be doubled in length as I ended up cutting back on the "back to the truck trail" which is what this so shows as the full loop.

Nice wide gravel trail. A couple steepish places. Several benches along the way.

Terrain and vegetation make it interesting enough for a pleasant hike. The short access road to the trailhead can be used by any car if you go slow.

The scenic driving loop to the trailhead is open. Trailhead is half a mile from end of the one way part.

As of 3-10-20 the access road is open. It is a very scenic drive. It closes 30 minutes after sunset.

I have never given a hike 4 stars - they are all 5’s but this one is a 4. The trail is through a wash which is very well marked with cairns but it is a scrabble the entire hike except when you are on a gravel road.

Bring your map there are several confusing junctions. I think there are much prettier trails in the national park nearby.

Road to the trailhead is still closed. About a 3-4 mile walk to get to the trail head from the parking area. Definitely worth it, would've given 5 stars if I didn't walk more miles to get to the trailhead than i was actually on the trail itself. Southern trail is gorgeous but def has some difficult terrain, wear your ankle brace or high top boots. Very easy to turn your ankle. Northern trail is more walking alone an old dirt road. Good markers, never got lost off the trail. Beautiful vistas!

Reef Top Circle (Carlsbad caverns scenic loop) access road is closed by the NPS "for resurfacing". Couldn't get an opening date from the rangers at the desk. And couldn't see the closure ahead of time on their website, thank you NPS.

My wife and I walk this trail almost every morning. Well maintained and relatively easy, it’s our favorite way to get our blood pumping in the morning. If you go at dark like we do you may want to park at the bottom if you valuables in your vehicle. If you walk during the day, bring water and something to keep you cool, there’s almost no shade.

Easy beginner trail. Well maintained, some uneven surface and gravel but overall easy.

Did the Rattlesnake Canyon North loop as an overnight, camping at the GRT/Rattlesnake junction. Rocky walking along the wash at the bottom of the canyon with plenty of cairns to follow. Some interesting topography along the way and amazing views. One washed out portion that resembled a slot canyon. Several individual tent sites alongside the trail on the clockwise descent from the trailhead. Carry plenty of water, there are places where rain could accumulate but nothing to bet your life on. Climb out of the canyon is VERY steep (elevation profile uploaded) with cairns to mark the overgrown trail. Really fun hike!

Up a hill and back down

I hiked up first then back down to the college. Nice evening hike. Trail has gravel and some areas where rain has eroded parts of trail. Still passable. Great trail and city view lights

Beautiful view of the city at dusk. There are a couple of places with loose gravel. Nice quick daily hike.

Pretty well maintained. Really only a couple places where the gravel is a bit loose / deep. Nice vistas over the city and some pretty flowers. Perfect for an easy 40-50 minute walk.

good to do with the kiddos. easy accessible

Fun open trail for an evening walk or run!

Good local trail with some nice views up the gullies. This trail has plenty of loose rocks so be careful if you are trail running, but the trail does keep you interested.

great for a family hike. with some steep areas. but theres a chance of seeing deer and other wildlife
