Great hike. Snow run off at perfect level for crossing streams. Little too populated for a single track trail, but completely worth it.

Went once in February. Snow was 16-24" deep on parts of the trail. If going before April/May I would suggest checking the snow depth on NOAA. Did it with my 10 yr old son in April. Short hike, pretty steep and intense. Absolutely beautiful. One of my favorites.

Trail was fun and had some challenges. Definitely want high boots that are Gore, and/or gaiters for the snow parts. Took my dog and he managed the trail well! Driving to the trail head wasn’t too bad, AWD/4x4 would be beneficial for the switchbacks up to the trail head. Overall another great hike!

Great trail, definitely gaiters and yak tracks weather but stunning. Clear on the way up clouded on the way out. The views are 360, snow pack was 18” in spots clear in others. Short trail but a for sure *sskicker.

Great and very rewarding trail. Since we did the trail in the winter it added some complications. Snow was very deep in places, ice on most rocks, and lots of loose rocks, and mud. I would not attempt this if you are not in shape, because it is very physically exhausting. Me and my grandfather made it up in about an hour and a half with multiple rest spots. We had at least 20lbs each of camera gear. Bring plenty of water/snacks and a good pair of hiking boots. It is very windy up top, at least when we were there, about 40mph. Do not go to Nogal and take road CO15, unless you have a capable off-road vehicle with lockers, m/t tires, and 4wd/Awd. Instead go through the road that takes you by bonito lake, but still drive with caution. Going down the trail took about 15-20 minutes. If you are going to do any photography, do not forget your SD card or CF card for your camera. I did and was not able to take any photos with my EOS R. Stack those rocks at the top.

Loved this trail. The view from the top in breath taking.

Excellent view! Please bear in mind, the final ascent is basically a scramble, and should be rated at the lower end of difficult.

Made it up with a low clearance 2wd vehicle, do it at your own risk and watch out for weather conditions. It’s was dry and sunny. The hike was very worth it, you can see white sands and have a 360° view

October 2019 Trail was nice. Some bushwhacking present and a light bit of scrambling. Some confusion at apprx .5 mile on ascent. The trail will split in two directions, you will need to turn directly right into what appears to be bushes and less developed trail rather than continuing to go straight. There will not be a sign at this location. There was a small rock partition that assisted us in making the decision to turn right instead of going straight. The peak was cold and windy, which was expected. Views were great! Use caution on the descent as rocks and dirt are very loose. Highly recommend bringing poles however, we were the only hikers out of a dozen or so using them. Other hikers seemed to manage without. Took us apprx 2.5 hours round trip at a very casual pace with a few rest stops. Lastly, would recommend a higher profile vehicle, truck, small SUV to access trailhead on the forest road.

The last mile is tough but the view at the top is worth it.

Beautiful trail. Hard to follow near the top. There are beautiful vista views and the trail is challenging but not too hard.

Definitely more than a moderate hike. Near the top is the hardest - steep, with loose rocks. Definitely makes it a little difficult coming down too. I have posted a video from one of the four times I have made it to the summit. Once you make it, you will see it is well worth the effort. https://youtu.be/qVcEpfJ_RSM

Very beautiful area, with plenty of camping spots near Phantom Loop trail. Trail is not well marked on the actual Phantom Loop portion so it was nice to have the All Trails map. Parts of the trail are difficult to see in the high grassy areas. There are several creek crossing for water.

Awesome trail. We followed this trail to Crest Trail and returned through Bonita trails (9 miles total). Turkey trail was shady and steep, the crest trail is pretty flat with amazing scenery. The Bonito trails follow the river with beautiful flowers and variety of tree species.

An absolutely amazing hike, but would NOT call it moderate. 2/3 were okay, but the last 1/3 required climbing some very steep rocks. View was worth it, but not sure we would have done it if difficulty level had been stated. Also, not sure if it was the time of year but there were swarms and swarms of bugs at the summit.
