Great hike, relatively moderate until you split off of piedra Lisa. Then it becomes much more difficult. Scrambling at the top but well worth it!

Great trail if you are looking for a challenge. A few miles of the trail isn’t shaded at all. This is a trail I would not take my husky since they are sensitive to heat and a lot of the trail wasn’t shaded. There was a bunch of people on this trail which made it less peaceful but the views of the city are beautiful.

Mostly good, except for a real rocky couple miles near the top. The ankle twisting potential is high. My route from the trailhead to the tram, along the crest trail, down the spur and back via La Luz was about 16.5 miles. Took about 6 hrs

Absolutely beautiful trail. I'm still getting used to the dry heat and altitude of NM so I don't recommend this for your first hike like I did - oops! Made it about 3 miles in before turning around, but it was still a lot of fun. Beautiful views of the mountains and city. Wear light clothing, bring a hat, and lots of sunscreen. A camelback is a must have.

Fun and gorgeous trail! Started at 8:30am and made it through 90% of the trail. Finished around 1:15pm with a few breaks. Around mile 3 the trail narrows and it becomes hard to social distance (just FYI for Covid). Good mix of shade and sun. Saw a few other hikers and dogs. Trail is not safe for your dog to be off leash. The trail is way too narrow and has steep drop-offs that make it dangerous for an off-leash dog. The last ~0.5 miles narrows substantially and I couldn’t get up with my dog. Otherwise, an extremely lovely hike that is challenging in some parts and has lots of nice views. Parking is is $3.

Out and back in 7.5 hours. The length of the hike is what makes it difficult. Two thirds into the hike, the well groomed path becomes very rocky and it's pretty challenging too. Pack your hiking sticks!!! It is beautiful and I'm glad we made it!

Beautiful trail with views from start to finish. We are just getting back into hiking and this hike was challenging! We arrived around 8 on a Wednesday and it wasn't busy at all. I do suggest getting out early as it was very warm by the time we finished.

My favorite trail in the ABQ area. Start early cause it takes some time to get up to the top. Bring water there is not allot of shade on the trail and it is very narrow with not allot of room to pull of to the side. Moderate the hard part is the length of the trail. My dog and I had no problem making our way thru.

Really beautiful out and back, lots of wildflowers along the way. Was pretty crowded for the first 2-3 miles. Recommend bringing extra water for the final ascent!

Fantastic hike up. Lots of shade. Steady uphill, nothing too drastic. Get an early start as this one is popular and gets crowded. Couldn’t for the life of me find a trail past the picture shown. There’s a beautiful overlook spot there, but then it’s just scrambling over rocks and I had no idea where to go. Turned back because there were some drop offs and didn’t want the dogs to get hurt going the wrong way.

Great trail. It is very narrow and a little tough to social distance but everyone is pretty respectful of your space. No one is wearing masks though.

While both La Luz and Domingo Baca are labeled hard, Domingo Baca is a step above La Luz in difficulty. The top 2 miles of Domingo Baca gain about 2500 feet of elevation compared to a little over 1000 on the top 2 miles of La Luz. I would not recommend doing this clockwise though, as descending down that kind of grade cab be even more brutal than ascending. Domingo Baca also ends abruptly at around 9945 feet, at which point you are on your own getting up the last 200 vertical feet to La Luz.

Great trail. It is VERY rocky and steep at times, I took my dog, wouldn’t recommend due to this. Wear shoes that have good grip. There’s is a small creek that runs down the valley. It makes the rocks slippery. The trail has many small cut offs that lead back to the main one. Beautiful views.

awesome trail, maybe less than 100 yards of ice left split up over a half mile stretch. A lot better than a month ago and totally doable now! highly recommmend

May 1st: Such a beautiful trail. Was my first time hiking it, and I was really awestruck at the beauty of the trail as you ascend. There’s also some really great wildlife; I saw hummingbirds near the crest, as well as turkeys around 8500 ft. Towards the top, the last mile and a half were covered in thick snow packs. Thankfully I had my trekking poles and boots with good grip. Going up was easier, coming down was harder, just had to take my time. To clarify, did not need any ice/snow gear other than what I mentioned. But, could be helpful. Looking forward to doing this again soon and seeing if there’s been any snow that’s gone near the top.
