Really nice area in the Pine Barrens. The Red trail heads pretty much through the woods (in sections it parallels the Green which uses the sand roads out in the open). It was great breathing in the scent of the pines as we hiked the trail In spots we came to wet areas covered with flowering lily pads and walked through wild blueberry plants which supplemented our lunch. At one point saw a great blue heron in a bog, and a pine snake crossing the sand road. I love the Pine Barrens for a good, easy walk - no rocks, no scrambles, just a smooth walk with lots to see

Network of trails, decently marked with lots of ways to combine them - full map at http://www.njconservation.org/images/2014fpp_trails8x11color.jpg. Flies are a pain in the summer but not unbearable with bug spray. Trails would also be good for trail running.

Flat, scenic and peaceful. However, go on the fall or winter. Biting flies are aggressive and relentless, even with insect repellent.

All I gotta say about this trail is that it's prolly one of the best in SJ. You're just walking and so many unexpected things pop up with dope guy views. Only bad view I saw was what seemed to be a stream we walked along with dooty splat everywhere. Highly recommended.

Nice little section of the Pine Barrens which was formerly cranberry bogs and blueberry fields. Many roads crossing the area as a result, but there is a beautiful red trail that takes you into the woods for a good part of the time. Lots of little surprises on the trail, like juicy blueberries, giant Adirondack chairs, beaver dams, and really nice little bodies of water,
