I really like the hiking scene here in Jersey, in general. I like this place particularly because the locals tell me there are no deer and thus, no deer ticks and Lyme disease.

You need to go after a lot of rain. Then the waterfall is really cool. I like parking at the Walker Road entry. It adds more miles, but is nice to hear the train at Turtleback Zoo, and you really can raise the pace on these trails. This is one of the most dense suburban areas in the world; so, to lose yourself in the woods is such a wonderful experience. Very dog friendly park, with lots of streams!

Pretty scenic route but definitely easy and not moderate. Fair views of city, alittle too close to homes and roads. Paved well, not much rock climbing. Did see a deer though :) that was nice. Also dog friendly, saw about 8. Nice for a casual low intensity walk.

Flat trail, good for trail running, follow the red mark. At lease 3-4 crossings with other trails

Great for the dog ! Didn’t take the outer loop trail because of it being so close to the road but there are many great interlocking trails all over this place. When you first come in, you see the 9-11 memorial with an amazing few of the NYC skyline ! We also saw a ton of deer and some young bucks.

The skyline of New York is gorgeous, saw a lot of beautiful deer. Antlers and all. Only issue is a lot of the trail is by roads, so there is some noise pollution and lots of trees down, blocking the trails. we got adventurous and climb around some, but at a few points we had to backtrack to get around.

Exactly what I was looking for. A little bit of everything. Went out on the blue trail, headed back on the white trail. Stopped to take a few photos - it was raining and everything looked really beautiful! I was really feeling it when I was done and it felt great! I’ll definitely be heading back.

The trail itself was fine, but the best part was definitely the little fairy houses hidden in tree trunks and trees along the trail.

Eagle Rock has a special magic that I haven’t seen matched by many parks. It has a vast array of terrains (from rocks and boulders to manicured trails to mossy wonderlands to some of the best off-trail hidden gems). In the nicer weather, I’ll find myself here at least 3-4 times a week. Keep an eye out for stick teepees and fairy houses on the trails! In the last couple years there has been trash and graffiti problems, but unsure if it’s due to it’s rising popularity or lack of staff upkeep and/or funding.

Spring Time Day Hike:

Complexity: Super Easy
Terrain: Flatland
Trekking Pole: Not Needed
Foot Wear: Trail runners should work fine. You dont need a fancy hiking shoe. A sturdy running shoe will also work
View: This trail is pretty much close to civilization. There is a little park in the trail head.
Trail & Markers: Even though i did not see a trail head. The path is pretty visible. Pretty wide trail. I followed orange trail markers. As there is so many trails criss crossing so watch out.
Parking: Enough parking for 20 cars
Permit: No fees
Animal Encounter: Squirrels
Overall timing: Should not take more than 45 min even if are walking slow
Streams : No
Pet : Leashed

Nice to get out for some fresh air, but I could hear cars driving nearby the whole time, and the only sign I saw on the trail was very adequate: "Where's the waterfall?"

Nice spot

AMAZING trail ups and downs.

Agree with other comments... the trail is pretty easy with well traveled and defined paths with little in the way of obstacles/challenges. However, you do get some killer views and still a really nice way to spend a couple of hours. You can mix it up with some of the trails that cut through the center of the reservation to increase the distance.

I absolutely love seeing the deer every morning.

Never seen the falls and i hiked the whole trail. Other then that we had a great time and enjoyed the hike regardless.

This trail should be rated as Easy, because there really are no challenges. The trail is wide and well-mounted, so no real terrain to traverse. It ends with a nice view of NYC, which is cool, but crowded with a lot of families. Would be a good spot to bring a picnic at the top.

Nice area in the middle of city/suburbs. Quiet, well marked trails. Saw chipmunks, rabbits and deer. Not a hard hike, a little rocky in spots.

I enjoyed this trail. Another one of the riches of nature within your reach.
Lot's of tree shade to protect you from the direct sunlight when hot.
Next time I will venture a little deeper onto the blue trail.

Beautiful and peaceful hike. We started by checking out the views at the 911 Memorial, which is really heart-wrenching. We then primarily followed the blue trail which is marked as "moderate" but really pretty easy. Seeing the numerous tepees is cool. Trails are really well marked and was a lovely middle-of-the-day outing. Would recommend. Could also be good for kids 6+.

It was a very easy trail. I went off the path to see if it would get harder but it stayed pretty easy. it was beautiful and not many people where there which was great for my dogs

Trails were not marked very well. Overall ok.

Lots of different trail options but not much elevation gain. This would be a great place for mountain biking however they are not permitted on the trails. Many of the trails are full of loose rock so trail runners need to choose their route carefully.

Lots of good, hilly trails in the reservation. I was really happy to have my phone with the app though. The trails are not marked all that well and it can be hard to know where you are.

Not bad. Some of the trails are not marked well. Thank goodness for this app!
