This route goes around Blue Mountain Lake, goes toward Rattlesnake Mountain, passing Hemlock Pond and Crater Lake with a short stretch on the AT. Stop at Indian Rocks and then proceeded down Woods Rd. One could cut 2+ miles out by taking the Buttermilk Falls trail to the AT, but here you continue on to an unmarked trail (after the switchbacks, and just before a small creek). It is a nice path through an hemlock grove past a swampy area. Continue on the AT until it makes a sharp right. Then take the trail straight ahead to a gravel road which brings you to Crater Lake (there is a side trail to the lake edge). Head up hill on the Orange, cross the AT and then down hill near to Hemlock Pond where you pick up the Blue trail. Turn right onto the Red Trail near Blue Mountain Lake and finish the trail along the lakeshore.Show more
