Hiked this after work and in a dress and sneakers—took probably around 1.5 hours, white trail the whole time. Really pretty. Didn’t see many vistas (two, but obscured) but I didn’t go off trail much because I was racing darkness so there might have been more. Overall really happy I did it.

Good exercise. Good views. Got a little lost at some points. Overall good hike.

Pretty good hike. View up top is pretty awesome. Covered by trees the whole way so the sun isnt beating down on you. Multiple scenic views to look at as you go up to high point which makes for a nice spot to eat some snacks and catch up on hydration.

on Shephard's Pond Loop

We stopped here for a picnic and were pleasantly surprised. Really nice picnic area on the pond. The pond had a sand beach. We were there off season but during the summer swimming is allowed. We defiantly are going to check it out in the warmer months.

Nothing extraordinary about the trail, but we only did a portion of it. Didn’t see any bears. Nothing is in bloom yet so all brown hues. Saw two small ponds connected with a culvert.

Nice 3 mike walking trail, with a few creeks to jump over... almost went off the trail a few times tho!

I went in October and the view was beautiful. The colors of the leaves were just changing and very vibrant. You can see the NYC skyline once you get to high point of the trail. The trail was very moderate and anyone could do this trail!

My daughter and I did this with a lot of snow on the ground. Because of that, I suspect it wasn’t as easy as noted. We had to find detours around paths covered in water. The loop was closer to almost 4 miles because of that. Even still, we loved it, though I had some scary moments crossing water.

Very pretty. View of NYC skyline was cool. This hike is as good as any in the lower ADKs and one of my fave Jersey hikes.

Great exercise for an afternoon. Climbs and views. Trekking poles helped my short legs. Nothing too strenuous. Beautiful views and interesting features.

Study the map at the park first and find the map at the kiosk showing the multiple trails and color codes for their blazes. The loop shown here is a small part of what you will see in the total network of trails. Look to match the shape of this loop with the trails on the right side of the map.

I relied on the GPS to stay on the loop shown here, but got off the intended trail and lost the yellow/white blazes near the end. Thought we were on the trail but ended up in someone’s backyard. It was easy to get to the street at that point and you were back at the parking lot. The network of orange, yellow-white, and red-white trails near the end is confusing, many parallel and shared trails, some making small loops. Take a photo at the kiosk or have a map to keep track of your route in this section.

Beautiful fall foliage.

Did this one again. its actually 2.6 miles nice views and id rate it as moderate.

Okay easy hike, well marked, and some pretty views of the lake.

Good hike. Great views. Many slippery rocks that require caution. Not technically difficult. .

A crowded trail for sure. Came across a pack of about 20 hikers all going up to Mt Defiance. Not one of my favorites but ill return just for the summit.

Great trail with some awesome views. Like other reviewers, It was a bit confusing to get onto the right trail but in the end I followed the green blazes that start near the pool by the parking lot and then the blue blazes up to the Ridgeline. There were some steep sections but I don’t think it’s very strenuous. Great way to spend a few hours when you need a quick nature fix.

Love how you can get amazing views without a super strenuous hike. I did get lost though. There are so many trails at this park and a lot of them run parallel to eachother which doesnt help... luckily i had service and data to look up a map and track my location to get back on the right track. otherwise an awesome loop and good hike with nice views

Very serene and simple hike. Multiple lookouts and opportunities to soak in the reservoir.

Went kayaking soon after.

Very nice. Botanical gardens are beautiful.

Beautiful views throughout the hike. We thought we were following the loop but ended up on the opposite side of the mountain, 8 miles from our car! Be more observant than us!!

Took a few minutes to find the start of the trail (followed the blue trail up and back). Amazing views from the top. Almost took the wrong blue trail back, but quickly sorted it out. I agree with the moderate level. Would love to go back with a drone and to also see the mines. The Natural pool looked interesting as well.

Nice easy trail and we'll marked

Amazing views from many vistas all the way to the top. Green to blue and back and not too difficult. A very busy trail with hikers, never alone for too long.

Once we found the trail markers it was a nice hike up hill, after rounding the lake it was a mellow trip back !!

We started at the other boat launch and headed up the trail/road then took the white/silver trail. A few steep parts but beautiful woods and we saw no one else on the trail this morning. Would def do it again.

Nice easy trail and well marked. A bit wet/muddy in spots but we had a lot of rain the previous day but wear good hiking boots to keep dry. I took two of my kids and they handled it fine. Also $5 to get in for NJ residents and $7 for out of state.

This trail is incredibly scenic and fun. It's somewhat challenging but not difficult. We ate wild blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries along the entire trail. They are in large abundance.

little hard to find the trails first, but once you on it it is a great hike. Don't miss visit the mine on your way up!

Very nice, and lightly challenging, hiking. Mostly good footing and nothing too steep. Beautiful surroundings. Lots more trails than what is shown. We changed trails to reduce the hike to 4.3 miles. There are signs everywhere stating that dogs are not allowed, but once you get to one of the trail head parking areas you can bring dogs. Dogs are not allowed in the other, more groomed areas. Also, during the warm seasons there is an entrance fee of $7 per car for non-NJ residents and $5 for residents. Well worth it. This is an excellent park for bikers as well.

NOTE: All Trails always comes out significantly shorter, if you track yourself, than my Garmin hiker's GPS. On this hike AT measured 3.8 mi, Garmin measured 4.3. I believe Garmin to be correct.
