Good hard trail. The elevation is not 1600 as shown. Max elevation is 1300. Markings are not so great. Good for early morning.

We saw the turtle, too. And a striking, male scarlet tanagers. There are so many herd paths and atv trails that’s it’s easy to go off route. The first half of the hike we were following both red and blue markers. The second half splits to just blue or red. We followed blue by mistake for 1/4 mile. The group went through a couple of liters of water each on the hot summer day. Great workout, beautiful views. Pup loved it, too. Huge parking lot was mostly empty in a Sunday.

Took around 5.5 hours with stopping for lunch. Saw a rat snake and a cute lil turtle. Well marked trail with some tough climbs and lots of wildlife. Pretty busy on a Saturday in July. Nice little lunch spot about 3/4ths through the hike going clockwise with some seats in a clearing.

We had a really great time, pretty challenging climbs if not used to hiking. It was super manageable though! Definitely bring that bug spray and WATCH OUT FOR THE MARKERS! Can’t stress this enough, I read it in the comments and still made the mistake to not follow them at the beginning and got lost. Used the app and got right back to the track! Recommended :)

This trail is lackluster, even by New Jersey standards. I did this hike plus a few other others connected to it to hit a 15-mile/3000-ft gain goal for training, and got the miles logged but it was a tedious slog. All the views are bad except the one called “High Point,” which was mediocre. This route constantly switches blaze colors and takes several unmarked connectors – so be prepared to get lost often even if you think you’re following the right blaze. Next door Stonetown Circular trail is leagues better than this, as are almost all the popular hikes you’ll find in Southern NY 15 minutes away. If for whatever you decide to do this trail, please make sure to visit Roomy Mine, which is the only genuinely interesting site I encountered in this trail system. Bring a headlamp!

This trail wasn’t particularly hard, one short steep section and some elevation gain, but I’d say more on the moderate side. No scrambles. The long loop section is easy and not particularly interesting, but it was a cool day and I had planned to hike until evening. If you skip it you won’t have missed anything. The beginning of the hike has some cool rock formations, but there is also a lot of noise from the nearby quarry. The first lookout (counterclockwise) wasn’t very enjoyable for this reason. I’d say it was a good enough hike to do once. I didn’t see a single person and there was only one other car at the trailhead. So it was nice for that reason.

Bring water and go early in the day, I ran out of water halfway through and it got dark when I was 3/4 done. The trail was great though, should be fine if you are experienced! Happy Hiking!

great hike! as mentioned in other reviews, it's easy to lose your way, so check often, and bring bug spray.

Clockwise, yellow to yellow/orange connector in order to cut across the loop with baby in backpack carrier. Good trail, very humid and kinda buggy. Nice views.

Enjoyable walk through the woods with great views at the top. You spend a good amount of time walking along the high point so get plenty of opportunities to see the valley. We lost a light brown leather baby shoe along the way, if anyone finds it please give me a follow!

We saw a bear and cub, stay aware of your surroundings. Take lots of bug spray, you will not regret it! This park is huge. Like others have mentioned this trail is easy to get lost or confused on since there are duplicate colors. Luckily I had AllTrails!
