Best bird watching trails in Princeton, New Jersey

The Woodfield Reservation is a wooded park owned by Princeton Borough. The park is located on a steep slope on Princeton Ridge, north of the town. This trail includes some quiet residential streets. They have very little traffic, but note that there is no sidewalk. It is also possible to loop among the trails within the reservation.Show more

This trail connects Princeton's Greenway Meadows and Woodfield Reservation public parks via the Ettl Farm Trail along the Stony Brook and some lightly trafficked residential streets. The route starts at Greenway Meadows Park in Princeton and follows the Rosedale Road bike / walking path Fairway Drive. Turn right and follow Fairway to its end at Wendover. Turn left on Wendover and follow it to its end, where an asphalt path on the left leads to a pipeline right-of-way. On the downhill end of the right-of-way, the trail continues on the left. This leads downhill along a stony path with switchbacks to the Stony Brook. Turn left and follow the trail; it is not blazed or marked, but is obvious along its entire route. About 1,500 feet after the switchbacks is a fork with a high branch and a low branch. Both branches eventually end at the Province Line Road pedestrian bridge, but the upper path allows easier access to the road, which is closed to vehicle traffic in this section.Show more

This trail combines a portion of the Lawrence-Hopewell Trail (LHT) with the Laurie Chauncey Nature Trail, which is on the grounds of Educational Testing Service (ETS) but is open to the public. (ETS has long been among the local public supporters of the Lawrence Hopewell Trail.) Part of the Chauncey follows the Stony Brook in a cool, shady valley with healthy trees. A part of it near the Chauncey Conference Center is more flat, but wooded, with grassy trails that can be a bit soggy after wet weather.Show more

The Lawrence Hopewell Trail (LHT) is a 20+ miles bicycle and pedestrian recreational trail and transportation corridor through public and private lands in Lawrence and Hopewell Townships, Mercer County, New Jersey. This segment is in Carson Road Woods, which is historic farmland preserved by Lawrence Township, NJ. This segment is one of the oldest segments of the trail, and bridges most of the distance between corporate campuses of two of the trail's largest benefactors: Bristol Myers Squibb and Educational Testing Service (ETS).Show more

Carson Road Woods is preserved open space in Lawrence Township, managed jointly by the township and a local nonprofit. This trail combines a piece of the 20+ mile Lawrence Hopewell Trail, which goes through the preserve, and trails in the preserve.Show more
