1.4.19. Really splendid hike for a winter’s day as the lack of foliage opens up the views. I went counter-clockwise, starting where the Grand Loop trail (white blazes) crosses Jockey Hollow Road and included the Mt Kemble trail (blue blazes) towards the end. Grand Loop/Mt Kemble is appropriately designated as moderate as the climbs are spread out over a decent distance. I gained 922 ft over 6.7 miles so it felt distinctly comfortable. The section of Grand Loop between the two crossings of Tempe Wick Road was quite muddy. Take care crossing that road as cars barrel along at quite a speed. Great views from the top of Mount Kemble looking east.
