great hike, elevation drop and gain behind big dam, nice trail!!

A real gem in southern New Jersey!

Njhiking.com and AllTrails give the distance for this hike at 6.2, but it is actually a bit longer. Between 6.6 and 7.5 miles depending on if you do any little side trips to the ruins. That being said, it is quite beautiful, with some really cool stone ruins and varied terrain. Thankfully it was cold and the ground was frozen while we were there, as much of the trail seems like it would be quite muddy in warmer weather.

Overall a relatively easy and enjoyable trail - a nice mix of walking through forest and walking around the lake. As other reviewers said, trails are NOT well marked and we took the wrong path a few times. I would rate this as an easy hike -- maybe "moderate" due to the confusing trail markers - but good trail to bring along young kids, beginner hikers, etc.

Great winter hike. Lots of beautiful views especially with the bare trees. Not constantly flat (but very small inclines) and different terrain. The wind made the reservoir look like the sea. The longest dam is very impressive given its height. Neat visitor center.

Great trail, easy to follow around the water, different terrain, great views.

This is me and my son’s favorite local spot. It’s marked well and there are nice surprises on each trail. It’s an easy hike that does offer a slight challenge. Definitely recommend!

Great 1st day of 2019 hike. Fresh air!! Crowded but that’s expected on New Years!

My perfect running trail. 5 miles, market at one mile intervals, flat and well maintained. Go in the morning or evening since it can get crowded on a nice weekend day.

Good place to get out to the woods for a short day hike. It is what you would expect for the Pine Barrens. Relatively flat and no incredible views although the lake is nice. It is quiet and wasn't crowded when I went during the colder months. Trails are well marked.

This is a great trail, especially for South Jersey. There are several hills along the way which is a nice change from the normally flat trails in our area. You can easily take different routes to vary the distance. There are good views and lots of opportunities to see wildlife. We walk or run this several times per month from October to April. We avoid it the rest of the year as it is a favorite destination for biting insects, ticks, chiggers, etc. Highly recommended in the cooler months.

Easily a local favorite. Has always been well kept with easy access to other activities.

Beautiful place excellent trails well marked can spend a whole day there if you wanted too. Highly recommend for all level hikers.

Beautiful scenery and clearly marked trails. Bikes and walkers get separate trails which is pretty nice!

Did this as a March of Dimes walk. Smooth level typical boardwalk.

Easy loop. Mostly level and well maintained trail.

Great weather (Mid 50s and sunny) for November. Heavy rain the night before made some parts a little muddy but overall a nice easy to moderate hike with great views of the river.

Easy trail, well-maintained, and the sights are gorgeous. Bring binoculars, the bird-watching is superb, and the reservoir is home to a pair of nesting Bald Eagles. Went early on a warm, sunny Saturday and the trail was nearly empty. Loved walking across the dams, great views.

Unsure if the leave or poorly marked Trail was the reason, but we may have got a little of trail (aka lost) but it was terrible! Lot of nice views, friendly hikers helped point us in the correct direction. All and all a good day! Only advice is pay attention to the trail markers!!

Beautiful and easy walk. We turned right at the intersection in Hoffmans and then left onto the Columbia trail, which gives you a nice view of the gorge from above. We left the trail behind the bridge in Stonemill, walked on Cokesbury road to the intersection with Raritan River Road and from there back to the parking lot.

We went trail walking in the stroller with our 3 month old. He loved it and fell asleep for at least half of the 4 mi. Batso Lake Trail. People had their dogs and it did not seem to bother anyone. The staff in the main office where the bathrooms are were very nice. Its a beautiful place to explore the NJ pine barrens anytime of year (especially during foliage time). Even in mid November we found ticks on us :O

Something for everyone, except strenousness. Very pleasant trail. Only comment is black trail markings could have been a bit more pronounced.

Short hike around a colorful pond. No real pathways other then the fishing paths on the parking lot side.
