Explore the most popular cross country skiing trails in New Jersey with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

Improperly marked trails that changed colors without warning, really narrow trails with brush overgrowing, crawling with mosquitoes, and not a lot of sights to see. Wasn't a fan.

Beautiful views definitely reccomend.

Long hike- prepare for about 45 minutes with a real rough terrain. Well worth it once you get to the top!

Brief summary: a relaxing hike with a difficult rock scramble in the middle.

We parked by the docks as suggested but FYI there is a $5 fee per car, and there are clean bathrooms to use.
It’s flat terrain alongside the shore. There is a rock scramble to go up on top of the cliff which was difficult but fun! Then you loop back at the top with a few nice scenic views. Also FYI map says to follow blue/white trail but it’s marked green. We saw two deer and a lizard and only a few people despite being a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The hike is mostly in shade too so even though it was 90degrees it was bearable!
Have fun!

Very clean, well kept, well marked trails. Clean bathrooms available and picnic pavilions.

Great place to hike, jog or walk the dog. Lots of friendly people and families. Great view up top.

Very well marked, not crowded, nice view of the water. Highly recommended!

WAYYY too many bugs. Only got a mile down before we couldn’t take it any longer and left. Will try again in the fall time.

Very nice to find around here, relaxing trail nothing too hard. nice walk in the woods

Signs say no bikes. Signs also say keep dogs on leash, however, all but 1 dog I saw were roaming freely.

Two photos uploaded by Mimi Alecia are of the NJ Saltmarsh and probably the Delaware Bay. Neither of them remotely resemble the Pennsauken River watershed of Western NJ, Camden County, the area where Cherry Valley Trail is located.

A pleasant walk through the woods in Cheesequake state park. Most of the trail is well marked and in good shape. There are a few sections that go through low-lying wet/muddy areas that are not well cared for, e.g., logs on the wet ground in lieu of boards. Some scenic views of the surrounding marshlands but not spectacular.

Nice hike, well maintained trails. The loop is 3.5 miles, not 3. Also, since it's a weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day, there was a $10 entrance fee. Overall it was enjoyable! Not really any spectacular views along the trail but it was still pretty.

Starting to hike again and this trail was great to kind of get my feet wet again. It is very well maintained and easy to navigate. I would like to go after rainfall so see the actual waterways filled and running. Would definitely go again.

Great hike if you take the blue trail all the way through. Old cabin was very interesting and unexpected about 2 miles in. Definitely gonna go back and explore other trails.

Bugs GALORE!

Bring a STOUT bug spray or prepare to get ate up. Mosquitoes, Horse Flys, Biting Flies, you name it, it will feast on you. Will never come back unless I just bathed in a bath of DEET

DOGS ARE WELCOME HERE! Great hikes at JH. Lots of fun trails through the woods.

Well-signed trail system in Cheesequake. Well-maintained trail. Not really much views, but a nice walk in the trees. Mosquitoes weren't bad until it hit 9:30am. Then it was like a switch was flipped.

I’ve decided to hike the entire loop which took me 4hrs 43min. It’s best to do the entire thing, park at the boat ducks and start from there. Very rocky in some parts, ensure hands are free for climbing. I had a lot of fun, will do it again just note to myself carry less stuff.

This trail is so much fun ! You hike right along side the water with a great view of Yonkers . Great work out due to varied terrain . You can hike this trail for at least 3 hours and you don’t see too many people on these trails . The markers are white and can be a tad hard to see due to the moss but there’s only one trail so there’s no way for you to get lost ! If you’re not sure , check this trail out and you’ll be very much surprised !

Very well marked and pretty empty at the time I went which was nice. Only one area where the little stream blocked the trail but a bunch of logs were placed so you could get over without getting too wet (until your dog pulls you into the water anyway). Definitely on my list to do again in the later spring/summer as the trees were still pretty bare and plants were still brown during mid-April.

Gorgeous Views and Very Peaceful

it was good but some parts of the trail were very unkempt. I wouldn't go after a rain it floods pretty bad unless I had waterproof boots.

Walking running scenic view. Mostly flat land and uphill also boardwalks over water. My favorite place to get in my cardio. My dogs love it too.

Was ok. LOTS of highway noise during first third of hike, which I found distracting and disappointing. Trails are well-marked but as others have mentioned there are many downed trees. Lots of trail by water, which kids loved.
