Overall a relatively easy and enjoyable trail - a nice mix of walking through forest and walking around the lake. As other reviewers said, trails are NOT well marked and we took the wrong path a few times. I would rate this as an easy hike -- maybe "moderate" due to the confusing trail markers - but good trail to bring along young kids, beginner hikers, etc.

Beautiful views!

LOVED the view from the big rock! AMAZING!

Not a bad family hike. Quiet. Easy. Trail is well maintained and marked but muddy. Some low lying areas had standing water in them.

Good, well-marked trail. Views of the lake, and easy to follow. I hiked on a cold December day. A little bit muddy so you’ll want to wear hiking shoes.

I have never seen so much trash on a hike before. I really hope they shut this place down do to what people have done to it, it's so sad given it's such a beautiful pond. People who litter should be made to clean it up.

This is a nice place to go if you're trying to get your kids into hiking/nature. Short, well maintained trail with some nice views of the stream. Also, there's an adjacent playground with tables as well as a miniature basketball court so the kids can run around and play and/or eat lunch after the hike.

Stony Brook trail to Blue Mountain. Stay on Blue Mtn. Real nice, pine trees, streams, not difficult. Turn right on Tinsley Trail (yellow) to Swenson (red) and Blue Mtn. and back to Stony Brook (brown). Overall nice, quiet hike, no hills. Took 3 hours.

Another decent trail at Cheesequake. This one features a few inclines and a long stretch of boardwalk along a marshy savanna. Some muddy spots. Highly recommend boots. Fairly empty this time of year.

great little 5k loop; but if your not into that there is 1/2 that with 20 fitness stations!

Unsure if the leave or poorly marked Trail was the reason, but we may have got a little of trail (aka lost) but it was terrible! Lot of nice views, friendly hikers helped point us in the correct direction. All and all a good day! Only advice is pay attention to the trail markers!!

Absolutely beautiful views. I took my Great Dane with me and we both had a blast. Mild traffic everyone was very pleasant. Alittle slippery and muddy at some points but duhhh it's a swamp lol. I really liked the fitness part of the trail it gave you a few things to do while you are walking. and doggie bags and trash cans all throughout the trail. very dog and people friendly recommended for anyone at any level.

Nice short trail for dogs and toddlers! Just enough distance and it is well maintained.

A nice easy walk along s grassy path. Best in winter when the cliff turns into frozen waterfall. Rocky cliff is off the path along the stream.

No bugs Nov 1 and the foliage was lovely

very good trail

Very nice trail. Completed in 1 hour.

nice and easy trail to get started. take the red trail to warm up. take the yellow or blue for a bit more elevation and views.

This isnt a hiking trail. this is really just a path in a strip of preserve woods going through Verona and Cedar Grove. You're never out of sight of a backyard. but it's a nice walk if you're in the town and want a tiny bit of nature.

This trail was ok, the markers weren’t clear or visible at times, many people walking, running, dog walking. Not very clean

Short little walk, little bit of marshy area and a boardwalk. Saw some deer. Playground for the kids.

Eh, It’s alright for what it is but I’ve always had parking issues and people constantly walking their dogs unleashed. A bit on the short side as I usually like to go on longer hikes. The path along the NYC skyline is very nice though.

Nice, easy trail that’s dog and kid friendly. The recent storm and flooding has done a decent amount of damage to the path though. As for local trails around the Cedar Grove, Verona, and Montclair area... I prefer this tenfold over Mills Reservation.

Keep in mind, a lot of the trail isn't paved, a lot of gravel paths and the Beachwood/Toms River portion is still 100% wild, no trail whatsoever, just sand and swamps.

we took north trail at the fork and could get only to a location where the trail gets lowest and closest to the lake. after weeks of raining many parts of trail were flooded but stepping stones helped lot until the spot where the trail was impassable. we had to return after merely 1.6 mile :( As we were getting closer to the lake we could notice more trash ( as described by other hikers. The lake is full of floaties, pool noodles etc etc. Along the trail we saw plastic bags full of "party trash" like plastic cups or plates. And yes, clothes, shoes, towels were not the unusual view. Besides all these additions, the trail itself is great and steep.

Very nice views at top. Not really a hiking trail for me. But great for a walk around.

Stony Brook trail to App. trail then back via Tower trail. lots of streams and wide trails along stony brook. Up the mountain was steep and the climb down was treacherous. Overall all moderate to difficult. Good loop.
