So icy, just sheets and sheets of ice. Fell multiple times on first 1/10 mile. Have to come back a different time

Trail has no trail blazers. You probably cant get lost in there, but you can get turned around for a bit. Parts of the trail were pretty muddy. Great for bikes I am sure.

Short trail but steep and parking is a little weird. Never had any trouble though. The view is great at the top! Not sure how to do the whole trail though because it seems to just stop after the summit.

trail was easily marked. Very muddy because of all the recent snow. Dog friendly trail.

One of my favorite hikes. It can be hard- scrambling for sure, but there are different paths. Views incredible

Did this post snow which makes for a beautiful walk. Easy enough trail but the trail markers could use a big makeover. Note: Don’t mistake the main “road” as part of the loop if you’re looking for the full circle. It will get you on the trail but cuts off a huge part. Enter the trail head for the blue trail on the left side of the parking lot or the trail head for the yellow trail on the right side for the full loop.

Do not attempt without considerable effort. The trail marked on the map does not entirely match reality at one point.

Went out solo after 2 inches of snow and the trail was lovely, quiet and beautiful. The balds were icy and the trail markers were covered in spots, but using the map I found my way. Not my favorite trail out there, but pleasant enough.

Great hike this morning with my two dogs. Started out by the reservoir, walked across the dam to the yellow trail on the left and worked out way down to the overlook at wildcat ridge. We then took the white trail back. Took about 2.5 hours to hike about 5.5 miles. Did not see anyone else the entire time.

Always a great option for walking the dog. I love all the intersecting trails so you can choose to shorten or lengthen your walk as you wish.

Nice well marked trail with enough elevation to keep it challenging. Parts can be muddy but it was cool enough that the ground stayed frozen in those sections. Good Sunday morning hike.

2.10.19. A really enjoyable quick and easy loop along the Westernmost part of the South Mountain Reservation. The Elmdale trail (blue) is quite twisty so you'll be covering more distance than you might imagine. Great views of the Rahway from the southernmost point of the hike. Here are my stats from the All Trails app as a guide: Distance: 3.6 miles Elevation Gain: 456 feet Moving Time: 1:09:49

Good hike, good views but very windy being right next to the water. Will come back in summer to enjoy it then! If you want more of a challenge, we went down and did the shore part of the trail first. The ascent back up to the top was with multiple stairs. Going the other way you would ascend using gentle switchbacks.
