It's very nice. I hike this trail almost every day. the people are usually polite as well. One thing i didn't like though is the constant vole holes.

It's not bad. Just wish there wasn't so much horse droppings everywhere in the deeper parts of it.

Great little pit stop to break up a drive. Short loop hike right off rte#9 with a small rest area and parking lot

This was a great trail to hike, beautiful views and not to to overly busy. The trail was not marked the greatest and found my self at a dead end a couple times but was easy to find my way back on track. All in all, was pretty great!

I have done this walk many times. Refreshing on a hot day, wonderfully cool down in the gorge. I would not call it easy though. Going down is easy, coming up, not so much. It takes some work if you are out of shape or older. Do it anyway, but take water and take your time climbing back up.

Nice morning hike, even in the rain. Short loop with steep uphill and scenic view at the top. Option for longer out and back trails.

This was the perfect way to stretch our legs while traveling home to Upstate NY from Laconia, NH (and there were a lot of picnic tables to use for our lunch break, too). The trail was well marked, and the gorge is beautiful. It's pretty steep in some places, but absolutely not a problem given the length of the trail. . . that's why I've recorded it as a "Nature Trip" vs. hiking (I don't think it truly qualifies for the latter).

Loved this trail. Started by Kohl’s. Minor incline that was barely noticeable for the most part. Others using the trail were pleasant and polite. Trail did have a bit of litter though when you get further out. Overall a great trail! Watch out for horse poop!

They put a bridge over 101.

Beautiful scenery...very flat and well shaded for a hot day..Lots of turtles and pond life...

Great beginners challenge or Saturday mini-hike! Very well marked trails and a beautiful view from the top!

A little confusing to navigate but a nice walk and beautiful pond.

**PLEASE NOTE** If your sole motivation for hiking this trail is to see/check out the remains of the abandoned Ellis Mill, don't.
Because it ALL got washed away in the 2005 floods.

I hiked this trail yesterday with my boyfriend and we just about went crazy looking for the Mill. "It must be back there, we need to go back that way." "Are you sure we didn't pass it when we missed that little section of the trail?" Back and forth all morning... for nothing!

If I sound salty it's because I LIVE for creepy things and got way too excited to check out this old mill.

Luckily, we bumped into a local on the way back to our car. She seemed a little surprised to see people out in her neck of the woods and she asked us how we heard of the trail. It was from her that we found out the mill was washed away by nature. She said, "if you look really hard, when it's nice out, you might find a few nails." I guess those would still be considered "remains" but that is reaaaaching.

Overall, it would have been way better to hike this without the slippery ice and snow. All of the elevation is during the last 3rd of the trail. The trail just kind of ends in the middle of the woods... But connects to another path (sorry, forgot to remember the name but pretty sure it started with a C).

To park, go all the way to the end of 116. It's not marked as "Ellis Trail" until about a quarter mile in and there's no signs for parking...

Beautiful nature hike but the trail is poorly marked...found ourselves off the trail a few times. The trail is only a loop if you want to cross a water way and get wet...if not you can take the access road back to main road and walk back to parking area.

Great short hike or trail run!

The smell of the air and the sound of silence on this stroll were so amazing... plus the glassiness of the water made for amazing pictures of the trees. This is definitely worth the visit!

Nice, quiet trail. I only saw one other person the entire time. Beautiful viewpoint as you are coming down the trail.

Rode the trail from where it crosses Pine St. in West Swanzy north to Keen, just about 6 miles each way.

The trail surface is very good; crushed gravel. The only inconvenience is the occasional chipmunk hole. For some reason they are digging holes in the middle of the trail :-).

The scenery is nice, but nothing special for the region. There are a few views of the Ashuelot River on bridge crossings.

There is a new bridge for the trail that takes you over Rt. 101/12, so there is no longer difficulty with that crossing as noted in an earlier post.

All in all an enjoyable ride.

Great hike with beautiful views of the lake. We live in NJ and always do this hike.

This place is just great. Lots of mushrooms from August and on. Great for identifying dragonflies, caterpillars, and great spot to find painted turtles. On sunny weekends in the summer its the place to be. There is also an area for swimming. I recommend going in the morning before it gets more heavily trafficked.

Great hike

I was very disappointed in the amount of trash on the trail and just off of.

Well maintained trails. Very relaxing and peaceful hike with my kids.

Nice loop- flat but lots of uneven terrain- good tree cover in the heat, pretty pond- some bikers coming through- walked with kids 9-12, lots of fun little spots to stop and explore

Really beautiful walk! Sometimes the trail isn't marked too well and you have to forge your own path. The mud is also bad if it's just rained. But overall, great hike for a nice day :)

Nice quick hike, great for families, beautiful gorge. Add to your itinerary if you're in the area!

loved it

good hike

We started up the steep trail of the loop. It was a great uphill work out. Definitely some flat parts to run on and the summit gives you a gorgeous view of Keene. I loved that it is a loop! Once the summer hits I will probably loop it twice to get a solid 3 mile hike :)
