Franklin, New Hampshire Map

This is part of the Northern Rail Trail that follows the Merrimack River. It is mostly crushed granite. The trail has some interesting sites that are documented with signs posted by the historical society. There are several locations along the trail that one can launch a canoe or kayak.

nice easy to moderate loop..but muck surrounding pond (no swimming) and built up shelter and picnic area make a lickly party area (4 wheel drive access to) so I wouldn't recommend going there at weekend evenings!

Nice little local hike in the woods! Great for the dogs and to get out for foliage. Was surprised to see a shelter and outhouse at Shaw POND!

Great hike with kids, narrow trail through forest then a nice picnic rock by lake. Perfect rainy day hike complete with Eastern newts.

Easy trail, great for family dogs and strollers. Interesting things to see off trail in you decide to explore a little. the only drawback was a lot of trash on the sides of the trail

I always enjoy walking this trail when I decide to take a longer lunch break at work. It's beautiful year round and the river is awesome. There are spots you can stop along the way and sit and watch the water and cool, old train tracks that more daring folks might wander out onto. Be careful, though, it is slippery at times on the tracks.
