Great moderately difficult hike. Took our golden retriever and she did great. She took a swim in Round Pond to cool off which was nice. Definitely used the GPS on my phone with the AllTrails app as we got mixed up a few times due to lack of markings on the trails. So, we ended up at 7 miles on my Garmin watch, closer to 7.5 on my daughters garmin watch. Nice views from South Mountain, not so much on North mountain. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the better views at the top of North Mountain because of a couple men sitting and smoking right where the edge is there at the top. With our easily excited dog, we just avoided the area. Honestly by that point, we were exhausted and ready to get down the mountain anyways! Doubt I’ll do this trail again, was very challenging and long! Took us just over 4 hours with minimal breaks.

One of my favorite hikes to date. Every turn seem like I was a new world. So much nature so many tiny animals. I can’t wait to come back.

Nice trail - not well marked in some parts. Look for white diamond trail markers. I printed out a trail map and brought with me which was helpful. Awesome huge boulders and peaceful ponds. A few small scrambles.

Not at all maintained

I also found the sign for the vernal pool but wasn't able to find it. Gave 3 stars because it was very buggy, with a lot of standing water and no views, just densely wooded.

Nice easy 4 mile in and out walk in the woods. Saw 2 other ppl on the trail. Has some incline on the way back but nothing difficult. There’s a sign for vernal pools we took it on the way back- was not blazed at all and just sort of ended so not recommended taking that detour.

Really nice trail overall. Going counter-clockwise, its easier at the start and a little tougher towards the end - next time I might try to reverse it. Not a whole lot to see along the way, but quintessential New England forest hike.

We hiked from the only entrance available and took the round pond trail to North Mt. trail to North Mt. peak. We hiked down to the boulder trail, which was pretty steep. We missed the trail marker to go down south ridge trail. and went out to the road by accident. We called for pickup as it was getting late. Don't try this loop unless you have started hiking really early and have a very healthy stamina. Next time we'll park two cars at either end or do a shorter loop hike. The hike down from the North Mt.was sooo cool, huge boulders , caves, and evidence of glacial shearing. May 17

I really enjoyed this trail. it was very well marked and I didn't need to look at a map the entire time which was awesome because I hate looking at my phone while walking on a trail. lots of cool things to see along the way. only thing is there were a lot of mosquitos out! but I'm not complaining at all, that's to be expected while being in the woods. Just don't forget to use bug spray!

really nice trail. so much different things to see. lots of tree roots so be careful.

Great trails. Though we walked most of it, we ran some sections. It was fun! I felt it was decently marked but had a map.

Great hike today on Mother’s Day. Our first social interaction since this crisis started. A nice trail to enjoy the day on. A good amount of water for the dogs to play in. Soft trails

Pawtuckaway has some really fantastic scenery! Probably the best boulder field I’ve seen, and I’ve done a good amount of hiking. I have this three stars only because the interior trails are so poorly marked and crisscrossed that I got miserably lost and this ended up turning into a 13+ mile hike, as I had to figure out where I was and backtrack repeatedly, using my compass, and I was luckily able to self-rescue. There’s no GPS signal out there, either, so make sure you plan and prepare very well. I’ve now heard from many others that hikers constantly get lost in Pawtuckaway; using paper maps and compasses is indeed an important skill to have, but NH really needs to sort out their insufficient signage there. Otherwise, it’s a lovely park! If I were a bouldering rock climber, I’d be all over those rocks!

My dog loved it. So much to explore. She loved playing in the brook along the trail. The only negative thing about this trail, is that it isnt a loop.
